Department Overview
The senior research associate is a member of the Xiao-Li Lab and conducts research at the interface of chemistry and biology, working collaboratively to develop chemical tools and inhibitors for cancer and other related diseases.
The candidate must be passionate about research, self-sufficient, and goal oriented. The candidate must be able to lead an independent research project, serving as the manager for that project’s research plans, experiments, and data analysis. The candidate will be expected to mentor and train other members of the lab.
Function/Duties of Position- Lead project management in key areas of research. Independently design experiments, perform experiments, and analyze data within the goals of the principal investigator.
- Data analysis, preparation of written monthly reports, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed journals, group meeting presentations and lab management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience; OR
- Master's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven ability to successfully perform fluorescence microscopy, synthetic chemistry and tissue culture.
- Proven ability to successfully manage research projects.
- Proven ability of successfully training new lab members and serving as a team leader.
- Proven ability in successfully developing genetically-modified tissue culture cell lines.
- Proven ability to successfully publish research.
- Enthusiasm for learning new techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse teams on collaborative projects.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Must be able to manage a research project and mentor lab members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of relevant experience post-PhD.
Additional Details
Research will be performed on the OHSU campus in Portland, OR. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
