Summary/Objective:
The Senior Vice President, Academy Studios serves as the creative and strategic lead for all digital projects and initiatives across the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, other Academy Foundation programs, and more.

As the head of this pillar, this role shapes the organization’s creative vision and storytelling across every medium and platform—from member and industry interviews, digital video, livestreams, podcasts, and continuing to elevate the work of the Academy Film Archive and other Academy Foundation programs. This role will be tasked to create and scale a newly expanded production arm that amplifies member and industry stories worldwide and strengthens the archival record of today’s filmmakers for future generations.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this leadership position oversees a multidisciplinary team of video, media, and content professionals, ensuring every piece of media reflects the Academy’s mission, voice, and global identity. The Senior Vice President, Academy Studios is responsible for evolving how the Academy connects with audiences worldwide, driving creative excellence, technological innovation, and strategic growth that preserves the Academy’s legacy while propelling its future relevance and reach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organizational Leadership & Vision
    • Serve as the visionary and creative lead for all content across the Academy, including the Oscars, the Academy Collection, Academy membership, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and more.
    • Develop and execute cohesive, organization-wide content and digital storytelling that embodies the Academy’s mission, voice, and cultural identity.
    • Partner with executive leadership to align priorities with institutional goals, ensuring global resonance and accessibility.
    • Represent the Academy’s creative vision to internal and external stakeholders, including filmmakers, members, and industry partners.
  • Departmental Oversight & Mentorship
    • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of video producers, editors, motion designers, and multimedia specialists across Academy, Academy Foundation, and Academy Museum divisions.
    • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, accountability, and professional growth across staff and freelance partners.
    • Guide the development of internal and external production resources, vendors, and crews to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with Academy standards.
  • Content Strategy & Production Excellence
    • Oversee all multimedia production efforts, including video, podcasts, livestreams, digital content, and internal organizational outreach.
    • Content to include member and industry interviews, Oscars-related content, education and talent development, Museum content, and more.
    • Ensure excellence in digital and archival content, reinforcing the Academy’s global leadership in cinematic storytelling and preservation.
  • Innovation, Growth & Technology
    • Stay at the forefront of emerging digital and content technologies, incorporating new tools and trends to expand audience engagement and reach.
    • Drive innovation in storytelling, production, and distribution to enhance the Academy’s visibility and influence across global platforms.
    • Identify and execute opportunities for new content-driven revenue streams and partnerships in collaboration with the Chief Revenue Officer.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a senior creative partner to organizational leadership, Academy Governors, filmmakers, and collaborators.
    • Collaborate with the SVP Marketing, VP Communications, VP Brand Creative, and other department heads to ensure strategy integrates seamlessly with marketing, communications, and brand objectives.
    • Champion accessibility and inclusion through stories that reach, inspire, and represent diverse global audiences.

Required Competencies:
  • 10+ years of experience leading programming, content, creative, or media teams in a major brand or entertainment institution.
  • Passion for and knowledge of cinema, global storytelling, and innovation at the intersection of art, culture, and technology.
  • Deep expertise in video, media, and digital/social content production, with mastery of storytelling, motion design, and post-production.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, high-volume content eco-systems with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
  • Visionary leadership with a balance of creative excellence, operational discipline, and strategic foresight.
  • Proven track record of growing or managing large-scale YouTube and other digital video channels.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, YouTube Studio, and analytic dashboards (Google Analytics, TubeBuddy, vidIQ, etc.).
  • Available to work extended hours during awards season and other high-profile Academy events.

Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $225,000.00 - $250,000.00. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
