POSITION SUMMARY:

The Skills and Simulations Operations Coordinator is a Full-time Principal Faculty (rank commensurate with experience) within the Physician Assistant Program. This position is primarily responsible for the coordination and implementation of skills and simulation-based instruction across the curriculum. Key areas of focus include clinical procedures training, technical skills development, and oversight of objective structure clinical examinations (OSCEs). The coordinator manages the daily operations of scheduling of simulation and laboratory environments to ensure seamless integration into the curriculum.

This role plays a critical part in operationalizing the simulation-based learning experiences to promote skill acquisition, clinical reasoning, and measurable improvements in learner performance. The coordinator works closely with faculty, staff, and administration to maintain a high-quality, student-centered learning environment that supports the program’s educational goals.

As a Principal Faculty, the Coordinator is expected to demonstrate effectiveness in course design, delivery, and evaluation. The individual contributes to curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts and plays and essential role in ensuring that students achieve the program’s learning outcomes and the competencies required for PA practice. The Skills and Simulation Operations Coordinator collaborates with the Directors of Didactic and Clinical Education and the Program Director to support curriculum assessment and ensure compliance with ARC-PA Accreditation Standards.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Serves as simulator operator by programming, testing, running scenarios, and debriefing with instructors, facilitators, and students to enhance experiential learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate all clinical procedural training, including skills sessions, laboratory instruction, and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), ensuring integration with the overall curriculum.
  • Understands and utilizes a wide range of education tools including anatomical models, task trainers, computer-based simulations, virtual reality, and medium to high fidelity simulators to support diverse learning needs.
  • Contributes to the creation of realistic learning environments using clinical equipment, simulation technologies, and moulage techniques to replicate clinical conditions and enhance student engagement.
  • Organize and design instructional materials to support the teaching, learning and assessment for each simulation and laboratory session in alignment with program learning outcomes.
  • Ensures that each skills or simulation session includes clearly defined goals, objectives, case scenarios, and assessments to support program learning outcomes.
  • Creates, manages, and maintains simulation-related courses, scenarios, evaluations, and data on the program’s digital platform to support instruction, assessment, remediation, and grade tracking.
  • Reviews and reports educational outcomes for simulation-based learning, OSCEs, and clinical procedural activities to inform continuous curricular quality improvement.
  • Provide support to the PA Department Chair in the development and review of policies, procedures, and instructional materials related to simulation and laboratory education.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in the programming and operational knowledge of simulation technologies to ensure effective delivery and support of simulated learning experiences.
  • Develops and delivers simulation-related faculty development for South University faculty and staff, including topics related to OSCEs, clinical procedural skills, and best practices in simulation education.
  • Creates, implements, and validates remediation processes for students demonstrating deficiencies in clinical procedural or simulation-based competencies.
  • Identifies ongoing equipment and supply needs, coordinates maintenance and replacement, and interfaces with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to simulation systems.
  • Ensures that simulation labs are organized and fully prepared for teaching sessions by maintaining routine inventory checks and managing an accurate digital inventory of supplies, equipment, and software updates.
  • Participates in accreditation-related activities, including preparation of simulation-related material and reporting, and contributes to the program’s admissions process, mission and program goals review, and overall program evaluation.
  • Engages in service, community and campus relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of a full-time Faculty member.
  • Participates in faculty development opportunities focused on simulation education, OSCEs, clinical procedural instruction, and teaching effectiveness.
  • Assists with other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director, PA Department Chair, or campus leadership.
  • Performs duties as assigned and outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:

  • Terminal Degree in healthcare disciplines such as physician assistant, pharmacy, nursing, paramedic, and medical doctor. Minimum of a Master’s degree is required.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline as applicable. If held, licensure must be valid, active, and unencumbered.
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession highly preferred; 2 years of clinical experience required, if applicable.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
  • PAs must have current or emeritus NCCPA certification.
  • Emeritus clinicians are not required to hold active licensure.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, ExamSoft, and WebAdMIT.

  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.

  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
