Locatedin Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college,offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses inWellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.



Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educationalcommunity, and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students withvarious needs and backgrounds. This is apart-time, non-unit position with no benefits.

MassBay Community College seeks a part-time Social Media Specialist tosupport the strategic goals of the Marketing and CommunicationsDepartment. Reporting to the AssociateDirector of Public Relations, this position will play a key role in promotingthe MassBay story to regional audiences to drive enrollment growth, strengthenalumni and donor engagement, and enhance the student experience. The Social Media Specialist will manage theCollege’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube,TikTok, etc.), overseeing all aspects including strategy, content creation,scheduling, and analytics and performance reporting. The Social Media Specialist will work closelywith the Associate Director of Public Relations to integrate strategicplanning, creativity, and data-driven decision-making to maximize the impact ofsocial media. The candidate willdemonstrate strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and a collaborative spiritto work effectively within the marketing team and across all departments.

KeyResponsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and execute creative and impactful social media strategies in collaboration with the Associate Director of Public Relations to boost the College’s visibility and engagement across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn;

  • Capture and edit high-quality photos and videos of campus events, student profiles, and faculty stories to create compelling content for social media, the College’s mobile app, and for other use of the Marketing & Development Department;

  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics;

  • Plan and maintain a social media content calendar, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent posts; schedule content, monitor engagement, and prepare timely responses to comments to foster community interaction;

  • Craft engaging narratives and visual content tailored to target audiences, aligning with the College’s digital presence;

  • Collaborate with departments and student organizations to promote events, activities, and achievements through dynamic social media campaigns;

  • Monitor current social media trends, explore new platforms, tools, and content formats, and creatively leverage these and other ideas to enhance the College’s digital presence;

  • Assist with recruitment and supervision of student ambassadors to amplify the College’s presence on social media and at campus events;

  • Build strong relationships across campuses to source and produce authentic, student-centered content;

  • Participate in departmental meetings and manage project timelines through the ticketing system;

  • Produce original content that will involve photography and videography capture and editing and writing original content that reflects and enhances the College’s brand and mission.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree with at least one year of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree;

  • One or more years of relevant experience in communications or social media creation and strategy;

  • Demonstrated experience taking and editing photos and video;

  • Demonstrated experience effectively using relevant creative and editing software (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.);

  • Solid understanding of branding, integrated marketing communications, social media, public relations, and digital marketing;

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with ability to communicate effectively across a wide variety of social media platforms;

  • Working knowledge of ADA compliance and accessibility best practices for social media content;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment;

  • Ability to give and receive critical feedback;

  • Ability to work within a team structure, take initiative, and see projects through to completion;

  • Proven time and resources manager;

  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends on occasion, and primarily on-campus;

  • Fast and willing learning, with positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;

  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;

  • Experience working within the Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Teams;

  • Systems thinker; able to see the big picture and interdependent details.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $35.00 per hour
