This role is a key strategic partner to senior leadership, responsible for transforming complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that drive enterprise decision-making. The Senior Director will lead efforts to understand business performance at a granular level—including profitability by product—and translate results into compelling narratives that influence corporate strategy, capital allocation, and organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate Financial Results into Insightful Narratives
    Analyze and synthesize complex financial results into clear, concise, and actionable insights for executive leadership. Communicate key drivers of performance in a way that is accessible to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Drive Product-Level Profitability Analysis
    Develop a deep understanding of profitability across products, channels, and segments. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations to optimize financial performance and strategic positioning.
  • Lead Strategic Financial Analysis & Decision Support
    Partner with senior management to provide forward-looking analysis that supports strategic planning, business initiatives, and long-term value creation. Influence decisions through data-driven insights and thoughtful financial perspectives.
  • Enhance Forecasting & Performance Management
    Support the development of advanced forecasting capabilities, including improved statutory forecasting and variance analysis. Continuously refine methodologies to increase accuracy and business relevance.
  • Own Financial Reporting & Variance Analysis
    Oversee the preparation, analysis, and presentation of quarterly statutory results. Deliver meaningful variance analysis (actual vs. expected) that highlights key business drivers and informs leadership actions.
  • Build Analytical Tools & Data Infrastructure
    Lead the development of scalable analytical tools, dashboards, and databases that enable deeper insights and more efficient reporting. Promote a data-driven culture across the organization.
  • Lead and Influence Across the Organization
    Serve as a thought leader within FP&A, leading the team and influencing cross-functional teams. Drive alignment around key financial insights and strategic priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in financial services
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Significant experience within Life Insurance & Annuities industry required
  • Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear business insights and recommendations
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, with the ability to analyze performance at a detailed/product level
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and contributing to strategic decision-making
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Excel and data tools
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complexity
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred

Benefits

Base Pay Range. The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
