Pay Range

$121,100.00-$166,500.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.

Position Overview:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise including specification, design, risk assessment, and integration of various mechanical manufacturing equipment for large capital projects at various manufacturing facilities worldwide. In addition, this role will provide focused expertise for multiple JM manufacturing systems including both proprietary and non-proprietary systems. Expectations for this role include the ability to execute small to medium scale capital projects as the primary Project manager or provide temporary backup for various roles on large capital projects.

This position can be based out of our Littleton, CO Technical Center or remote as long as the candidate is based close to a JM manufacturing facility and/or near a major international airport.

Your Day to Day:

  • Provide engineering expertise for the development of scopes, design standard adherence, and full engineering execution or supervision of contract engineering on all types of capital projects. In addition, coordinate institutional knowledge transfer of proprietary and non-proprietary mechanical systems to manufacturing locations within the corporation as well as providing technical guidance to senior leadership on specific engineered system scopes, costs, and schedules as required.
  • Responsible for development of technical scopes or technical sections of larger project scopes of work as required with an understanding of the entirety of needed systems required for meeting larger project deliverables.
  • Development of internal corporate standards, system guidelines, and general mechanical specifications to provide commonality and robustness of mechanical processes and project execution. In addition, responsible for internal maintenance and archiving of same standards, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Provide project estimates for various mechanical systems for inclusion in larger project estimates. In addition, provide full project estimates on small to medium size projects that have significant mechanical systems as required.
  • Provide MOC (management of change) engineering expertise as required on various mechanical systems.
  • Participate and/or lead process safety reviews and/or risk assessments of mechanical systems including; PHA’s, MOC’s, FMEA’s, or other applicable risk assessments as needed.
  • Operate with minimal supervision or guidance executing primary engineering responsibilities.
  • Coordination of corporate and/or division process leads on proprietary mechanical systems ensuring necessary engineering is completed to meet process or equipment expectations.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on competitive bids for equipment and services from a technical perspective, balancing process or safety risk, process requirements, and capital budget/schedule impacts. In addition, this position will help the JM businesses to understand the need for various sole source vendors and equipment as required.
  • Ensure contractor/vendor requests for information are acted upon in a timely manner and develop bid request technical documentation and supplier lists as needed.
  • Work with Project Engineering to evaluate potential engineering firms and contractors as required.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are followed, driving for a zero-incident environment.
  • Continually provide recommendations to improve the operation, reliability, and life of equipment used in JM manufacturing processes with an understanding of how the recommendations can affect business productivity and/or project execution.
  • Participate in process improvements and provide innovation and recommendations to make process improvements in both day to day and long-term plant performance.
  • Provide full project management execution for division and plant mechanical intensive projects on a limited basis in terms of duration and overall capital cost.
  • Prepare final documentation covering assignments and issue internal research or engineering reports as required.
  • Submit invention disclosures for all aspects of proprietary equipment or engineering as discovered to ensure long term business viability of JM’s manufacturing systems.
  • Coach and mentor JM staff and assigned operations team members, and assist them to solve problems and meet company, division and departmental objectives.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical or manufacturing engineering with a minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing industry
  • Exposure to manufacturing facilities safety and quality programs
  • Demonstrated ability to provide complex and innovative solutions to process engineering problems
  • Experience or exposure with multiple mechanical manufacturing systems including; process water, combustion, cooling, steam generation, potable/non-potable water, ovens, air handling (large fans), pneumatics, hydraulics, conveying, compressed air, automated material handling, spray systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of various micro-processor based control systems especially PLC, DCS, and PC based systems
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Working experience with specific software environments such as MS project, AutoCAD, and SAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and technical writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with machine operators, engineers, management and construction personnel (both craftsman and foremen)
  • Ability to work well within a team or with little supervision
  • Strong problem resolution skills
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret process/manufacturing data along with evaluation of data
  • Supervises/Leads individuals or a project team to achieve milestones and objectives by setting priorities and providing direction. May provide feedback for performance evaluations.
  • Moderate travel required (30% - 50%)
  • Work environment is typical of an office setting. When working in the manufacturing facility, may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 50 pounds
