Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for executing and owning key components of the accounting function, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, and month-end close. This role partners closely with the Accounting/Finance Manager to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient processes across a multi-entity environment.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving organization and is ready to take ownership of critical accounting functions while supporting process improvements and scalability.
Duties and Responsibilities
Core Accounting & Financial Operations
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and payroll-related entries
- Own and maintain general ledger accuracy across multiple entities
- Perform and complete monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations
- Support AP/AR processes as needed, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Assist in maintaining intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Ensure proper documentation and support for all accounting entries
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Execute key components of the month-end and year-end close process
- Prepare close schedules and ensure deadlines are met
- Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively
- Support the Manager in reviewing financials and explaining variances
- Continuously improve the close process for efficiency and accuracy
Financial Reporting Support
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
- Assist in variance analysis and trend identification
- Support preparation of financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide data and insights to support budgeting and forecasting activities
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external audits
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial documentation
- Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance requirements
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting workflows and recommend improvements
- Assist in automation initiatives and system enhancements
- Help develop and maintain SOPs for accounting processes
- Support implementation of scalable processes for company growth
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with HR on payroll entries, benefits accruals, and related reconciliations
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure accurate financial data flow
- Serve as a resource for accounting-related questions across departments
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications
· Strong understanding of General Ledger and month-end close processes
· Experience with multi-entity accounting preferred
· Solid knowledge of accrual accounting and reconciliations
· Experience supporting audits and financial reporting
· High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments
- Experience with financial system implementations or automation initiatives
