Anytime between 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the University Archivist and working with other Special Collections Research Center Directors and employees, the STEPS Collections Move Assistant prepares and moves archival, rare and printed material, and artifacts and art objects out of the University of Kentucky Margaret I. King Library to on-site and off-site storage prior to library renovation.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Creating inventories of archival boxes, printed and rare materials, and artifacts and art objects.
- Adding inventories to the collection management system, ArchivesSpace.
- Searching and identifying printed and rare materials using Primo, the Libraries Integrated Library System, and WorldCat, the OCLC catalog.
- Foldering, boxing, wrapping, labeling, barcoding, and taping boxes and items to send to off-site storage or to move to on-site storage.
- Moving boxes and items to off-site and/or on-site storage.
- Recording and updating locations in ArchivesSpace and other shelf inventories.
- Recording statistics and other tracking information.
- Pro-active communication to supervisor and other Directors and employees regarding projects, progress, questions, and suggestions for improvement.
- Participating in team projects and meetings.
- Trouble-shooting and problem-solving within the assigned areas of work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google apps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Accurate and quick typing.
- Legible handwriting.
- Ability to organize and plan.
- Fluency in English and American culture.
- Ability to trouble-shoot and problem-solve.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
