Job Summary

The STEPS Lead Exam Proctor is responsible for:

  • Overseeing the examination environment
  • Ensuring the proctors’ adherence to protocols
  • Upholding the integrity of the exam process


Key duties include:
  • Administering academic and placement exams (such as Accuplacer and ALEKS) to students with disabilities
  • Tasks such as scribing or reading the exam
  • Collaborate with colleagues
  • Provide guidance to fellow exam proctors
  • Foster a positive, cooperative work atmosphere.


This role requires ensuring exam proctors’ consistent and accurate adherence to all policies and procedures. The STEPS Lead Exam Proctor will regularly report observations to their direct supervisor. This position will assist the testing office with daily duties.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional customer service skills, demonstrating effective communication and problem-solving abilities when interacting with students, faculty, and staff.

Proficiency in operating the testing center’s equipment, including desktop computers, camera software, iPads, laptops, and adherence to security protocols, is essential. The Lead Exam Proctor must also be adaptable to changes in policies, procedures, and testing technologies.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Proficient computer skills; Can keyboard a minimum of 60 WPM; Ability to listen and scribe from dictation; Ability to read and speak English fluently, Zoom, Organized, Time management skills, Communication skills, Detailed oriented, Punctuality, Dependability, Teaching/Coaching.
