Job Summary

The STEPSProduction Operations & Facilities Support Technician provides hands-on technical, operational, and event support for two key Smart Campus locations: the UK Digital Studio at Rupp Arena and the Esports Lounge at Cornerstone.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Production Support
  • Set up, operate, and strike studio and control room equipment for classes, workshops, live productions, Esports tournaments (i.e., KHSAA), and partner events.
  • Ensure all systems (switcher, graphics, LED wall, robotic/manual cameras, lighting, audio, streaming platforms) are functioning before, during, and after events. Trouble shoot technical issues in real-time to minimize disruptions.
  • Operate and maintain production gear in both the UK Digital Studio and Esports Lounge.

Academic & Student Support
  • Assist faculty in delivering academic courses in the Digital Studio and Esports Lounge, ensuring technical readiness and smooth operations.
  • Provide on-floor and control room support for student/staff/faculty learning in camera operation, lighting, audio, graphics, and streaming workflows.
  • Mentor, onboard, and train student employees in production techniques, esports event operations, and customer service.


Event Operations & Partner Engagement
  • Support recurring productions such as the UK Coaches Show, recruitment media days, Esports tournaments (i.e., KHSAA), and partner events for UK Athletics, JMI Sports, and other collaborators.
  • Coordinate logistics, equipment needs, and technical workflows for internal and external events.
  • Serve as a point of contact for partners, community groups, and visitors using the spaces.


Facility & Asset Management
  • Ensure daily operational readiness of studios, control rooms, gaming stations, and event areas.
  • Perform regular checks, preventative maintenance, and coordinate repairs with engineering.
  • Safeguard and track university assets, including production, gaming, and AV equipment.
  • Manage equipment checkout, inventory, condition reports, and asset databases.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for equipment use, troubleshooting, and workflows.


Community Engagement & Programming
  • Assist in planning and executing tours, workshops, and special events for potential students, educators, and community partners.
  • Support summer and fall/spring break programming, including seminars, camps, and public events in both facilities.

This position ensures all production and event spaces are fully operational, supports live and recorded productions, assists with academic courses, manages equipment checkout and inventory, and facilitates partner and community engagement activities. The role combines technical expertise, event coordination, and customer service to create high-quality experiences for students, faculty, partners, and guests.





Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Professional experience in live production, Esports event operations, or broadcast environments.
  • Proficiency with studio production systems (Ross Carbonite Ultra60, Cambot robotic cameras, LED walls, lighting rigs, streaming platforms).
  • Knowledge of gaming hardware/software, streaming platforms (Twitch, OBS, Streamlabs), and Esports broadcasting.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for AV, IT, and control room systems.
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying skill levels, from beginners to experts.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
