General knowledge of sports is required, but no prior officiating experience is required.

Physical Requirements
  • Requires lifting & moving equipment (5 – 20 lbs) for sport set up.
  • Standing, sitting, jogging or running for extended amounts of time.
  • Exposure to weather for outdoor sports.



Shift
  • Intramural Sports Programming occurs in the fall & spring semesters Sunday through Thursday during the hours of 5pm – midnight. All regular shifts will be within those days/times.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, which is an average of 2-3 shifts per week.
  • The maximum hours per week that is allowed is 20 hours.
  • Majority of hours will take place during peak programming times of September – November and February-April. Less hours will be available at the beginnings and ends of the fall and spring semesters.



Job Summary

Requirements
  • Be a current student in good standing with the University
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Complete required online trainings which include Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communications & Utility Cart
  • Be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Officiate at least one intramural sport per semester (sports include basketball, flag football, soccer and volleyball)
  • American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certified (certification will be provided at no cost to the student upon hire)


Dress Policy
  • Provided officiating stripes with a shirt underneath, tucked in
  • If working not as an official, wear the provided blue campus recreation staff shirt
  • Solid and dark colored Athletic pants or shorts
  • Closed-toe athletic shoes or cleats (no metal)
  • Hats may only be worn for outdoor events and programming
  • Jackets (and similar outerwear) may be worn underneath stripes
  • Stripes are only permitted to be worn while clocked in, please remove once clocking out


Essential Job Functions
  • Arrive prepared and on time to all scheduled shifts
  • Understand and enforce all sport rules in a fair and professional manner
  • Always maintain an appropriate and professional demeanor
  • Always create and maintain an open line of communication
  • Educate participants on the rules in correlation to the sport
  • Assist the IM supervisors with the facilitation of all IM events and activities including:
    • Direct participants to appropriate playing surfaces
    • Ensure participants have check in with an IM supervisor
    • Set up and take down equipment on the playing surfaces
  • Conduct captain meetings before the start of each game
  • Receive regular officiating evaluations in a respectful manner

This position is Federal Work-Study eligible, if you qualify.

Opportunity to advance to Intramural Student Supervisor and or Student Program Assistant after officiating for at least one semester.
