General knowledge of sports is required, but no prior officiating experience is required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift & move equipment (5-20 lbs.) for programming set up
  • Standing, sitting, jogging or running for extended amounts of time.
  • Exposure to weather for outdoor sports.


Shift
  • Intramural Sports Programming occurs in the fall & spring semesters Sunday through Thursday during the hours of 5pm – midnight. All regular shifts will be within those days/times.
  • Must be available to work an average of 8 hours per week, which equals 2-3 shifts.
  • The maximum hours per week that is allowed is 28 hours.
  • Majority of hours will take place during peak programming times of September – November and February-April. Less hours will be available at the beginnings and ends of the fall and spring semesters.


Job Summary

Requirements
  • General knowledge of sports is required (prior officiating experience is not)
  • American Red Cross adult/pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certified (provided by Campus Recreation)
  • Demonstrated reliability and professionalism
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Willingness to learn new sports rules and officiating skills
  • Be receptive to constructive feedback
  • Officiate at least one intramural sport per semester


Responsibilities
  • Understand, implement and enforce rules, policies, and procedures fairly and professionally
  • Arrive prepared and on time to all scheduled shifts
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide quality customer service to UK and the Campus Recreation community
  • Complete all required trainings, in-services and skill checks as assigned
  • Foster and sustain, clear and open communication
  • Act as a role model for sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field
  • Support a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants


Dress Policy
  • Provided officiating stripes, tucked-in
  • Dark colored athletic pants or shorts
  • Closed-toe athletic shoes or cleats (non-metal)
  • Hats may only be worn for outdoor events and programming

This position is Federal Work-Study eligible, if you qualify.

Opportunity to advance to Intramural Student Supervisor and or Student Program Assistant after officiating for at least one semester.
