Job Summary

Essential Job Functions:

Resident Care
· Provides medication assistance for residents in accordance with state regulations and company policy including; pouring, preparing, assisting with administration, and documentation
· Assists in maintaining the medication cart and storage room in a neat and orderly manner
· Accepts responsibility for accurate medication counts and for security of the medication cart and medication storage room for assigned shifts
· May be called upon to assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, transferring, and mobility, as needed
· Engages residents in meaningful conversation, socialization, and activity while providing personal care and medication assistance
· Responds to all resident needs and/or requests for care promptly, and provides or obtains assistance with care as necessary
· Upholds Residents’ Rights at all times
· Supports and upholds all company policies and care philosophy
· Observes residents for changes in physical, emotional, mental, or behavioral condition, unusual symptoms, medication side effects, accidents, injuries, or unusual occurrences, and reports promptly to a licensed nurse
· Completes all documentation such as medication administration records, incident reports, change of condition reports, and behavior tracking, as requested, and in a timely manner
· Assists in the dining room during resident meal times as needed
· Encourages residents to participate in scheduled activities and outings, and provides residents with opportunities for self expression and enhanced self esteem through spontaneous individual or small group interaction and activity

Housekeeping
May be called upon to assist with Caregiver housekeeping responsibilities, including:
· Making resident beds, emptying resident garbage, and tidying resident rooms
· Changing resident bed linens and towels according to Community schedule and as needed due to incontinence or other soiling
· Assisting with resident laundry
· Maintaining resident clothing and clothing closet in a clean, neat and orderly manner
· Cleaning dining room tables and chairs after meals and snacks
· Notifying Housekeeper of spills and soiled areas; assisting with clean-up as needed. When no Housekeeper is on duty, cleaning up spills and soils immediately
· Straightens chairs, pillows and decorative items in common areas as needed, and returning items to appropriate location when found out of place
· Assisting in cleaning wheelchairs, walkers, and other resident equipment per Community cleaning schedule and as needed
· Assisting with dusting, vacuuming, and other housekeeping duties as assigned

Other
· Attends all required staff meetings and in-service training sessions
· Demonstrates a positive attitude and contributes to an atmosphere of team spirit and cooperation within the Community
· Answers phones as needed, in a prompt and courteous manner
· Promotes customer service and positive community relations by treating residents, families, other staff, and all visitors in a courteous, helpful and friendly manner

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred
· Minimum of 1 year previous experience as Caregiver for the elderly in a residential or long-term care setting
· Must be able to read, write and speak English to communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, and other staff members
· Must be able to perform job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation
· Must complete Medication Aide training (and certification in states where required)

Working Conditions:
Must be able to work full-time or part-time as agreed upon, on assigned shift, including weekend and holiday rotations

Physical/Sensory Requirements:
· Medium work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
· Must be able to see well enough to write and read, and to visually interact with residents, families, and staff.
· Must be able to speak and hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families and staff.
