A Law Clerk provides legal and administrative support to attorneys, judges, or legal departments by conducting research, drafting legal documents, and assisting with case preparation. This role is often filled by law students or recent law graduates seeking practical legal experience.
- Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research using statutes, case law, regulations, and legal databases
- Draft and proofread legal documents such as briefs, motions, memoranda, contracts, and pleadings
- Summarize depositions, testimony, and case files
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, hearings, and client meetings
- Organize and maintain case files and legal records
- Cite-check briefs and ensure compliance with court rules and deadlines
- Communicate with court personnel, clients, and opposing counsel as needed
- Perform general administrative tasks related to legal matters
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited law school
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law)
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Professional demeanor and strong ethical standards
