Job Overview and Requirements: The Public Information and Engagement section of the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works (also known as Live Green Lexington) is seeking to hire an outreach intern for the Spring 2026 semester to assist our team in planning educational and interpretive experiences.

This is a flexible, part-time internship position. Weekend/evening availability is required. Candidate must work a minimum of ~15 hours a week during business hours to have a meaningful intern experience. Work will take place at the Phoenix Building, 101 East Vine Street and at various event sites. Internship opportunities range from February 2026 to May or June 2026.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:
• Learn about the various topics the PIE section conducts outreach on. Waste Management, Water
Quality, Urban Forestry, Alternative Transportation.
• Create content and graphics for informational signage, covering all EQPW topic areas listed
above (mainly creation of content, only some graphics creation/editing).
• Assist in creating content and interactives for educational programming and events.
• Tabling and events: staff as needed/required. Evening and weekend work is required.
• Load and unload event and tabling supplies as needed.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

• Enrolled in a higher education program related to environmental science/studies or related field.
• Proficient in Canva.
• Proficient in or willing to learn Adobe Illustrator.
• Ability to work outdoors and complete physically demanding tasks.
• A valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record (no major violations)
• Comfort driving large vehicles (cargo van and pickup truck) or willingness to learn.
• Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with staff.
• Self-directed team player who takes initiative.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet work objectives.
• Willingness to undergo a background check and pre-employment screening (drug and alcohol
testing).
