Preferred Education/Experience

Recreation & leisure programming – Understanding how to plan activities for different age groups (kids, teens, adults, seniors).
Basic health & fitness principles – Knowing safe exercise practices and how to keep participants active without risk.
Group dynamics – How people behave in groups and how to manage different personalities.
Safety & risk management – Awareness of hazards, supervision techniques, and emergency procedures.
Community resources – Familiarity with local parks, facilities, and programs.
First aid & CPR – Often required (certifications are a big plus

Job Summary

You must be a current UK student to apply for this position. This position is located off campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.

Plan, organize, and lead recreational programs, field trips, and special events for youth, teens, adults, and seniors
Set up and take down equipment and supplies for programs
Ensure activities are safe, engaging, and appropriate for the age group
Greet participants and track attendance
Assist with program registrations and sign-in sheets
Keep program areas clean, organized, and safe
Open, monitor, and close recreation areas when assigned
Enforce facility rules and policies
Provide guidance, support, and encouragement to participants

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Applicant must be eighteen (18) years of age or older
Community Center locations include Castlewood Community Center, Dunbar Community Center, Kenwick Community Center, Tates Creek Community Center and William Wells Brown Community Center.
Depending on the center, hours may vary.
All positions require a background check prior to employment.
