Responsibilities

A Substation Field Technician is responsible for acquiring field data in electrical substations and along transmission line corridors. You’ll work in a field environment and make measurements on electrical conductors, rigid bus connections, and other equipment using proprietary geospatial software. Your knowledge of conductor sizing, code words, and substation design will be helpful to the success of these projects.

  • Work will be performed in the field, at client sites, up to 90% of the time.
  • Field work could be anywhere in the continental US, but mainly in the mid-west, south and southeast.
  • Prepare materials, drawings, substation diagrams to turn into work plans for field crew.
  • Interpret field data, using it to identify transmission conductor types and sizing.
  • Manipulate and Interpret Image files and, QC and validate field measurements.
  • Verify conductor type analysis and ampacity ratings.
  • Effectively interface with field crew members to ensure all data is collected correctly.
  • Conduct in a professional manner while interacting with co-workers, management, and direct client in the field.
  • Follow company’s safety procedures and dress code.
  • Provide support to other operational units as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Manager to help accomplish the Company’s strategic goals.


  • Qualifications



  • 1+ years of work as a substation technician, lineman, or system operator.
  • Ability to work with a team of expert technicians, co-work with field personnel and developers for continuously improve of work process.
  • Ability to read and interpret substation schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to work in the field and carry 30lbs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and problem solve on the fly.
  • Familiarity with High-Definition cameras, and digital photographic camera setups.
  • FAA Part-107 pilot license or willingness to obtain it.
  • Experience working with any type of Geographic Information System or Geodatabase files is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NERC FAC-008 and 009 is a plus.
  • Experience with field to office tasks such as downloading files, and equipment interconnections.
  • Experience working with Excel files and other database format.
  • Advanced and professional writing skills.
