The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) – Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center, is accepting applications for one (1) durationalSupervising Nurse position in Middletown, CT.

  • Location: Middletown South PRTF
  • Full-time | 40 Hours per week
  • 1st Shift | 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
    • Days Off Week 1:Saturday, Sunday
    • Days Off Week 2: Friday, Tuesday


In your role as a Supervising Nurse, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Administrative and Clinical supervisor for PRTF unit-based nurses, reports directly to the PRTF's Director of Nursing.
  • Ensures that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to PRTF patients.
  • Provides clinical guidance to nursing staff.
  • Monitors the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care.
  • Responds to psychiatric or medical emergencies
  • Related duties as required.

About the Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center:

At the Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center, we treat our youth and each other with dignity and respect. It is in this relational, cultural and gender sensitive surrounding that our therapeutic milieu is based. Interdisciplinary teams develop, implement and continually assess individualized treatment plans.

Solnit – South Campus is a state-administered Psychiatric facility for Connecticut’s children who are under the age of eighteen, located on a 67-acre campus overlooking the Connecticut River in Middletown, CT. The center provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with severe mental illness and related behavior and emotional problems who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting.

The campus includes: Four coed hospital units, three female adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility cottages (PRTF), two schools, an indoor pool, playgrounds, ball field, two gyms, recreation rooms, and outdoor picnic area.

FOR THOSE WHO HOLD AN RN LICENSE IN A STATE OTHER THAN CONNECTICUT AND WISH TO APPLY FOR A CONNECTICUT LICENSE, PLEASE:

  • Review the eligibility and documentation requirements for CT license by endorsement of an out-of-state license;
  • Complete a CT DPH online application (expand the ‘Public Health Practitioners’ grouping, select ‘Registered Nurse’ and then ‘Start’;
  • Request verification of out-of-state license(s) electronically through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s Nursys® System. To send verification of your license(s) to CT, read and agree to the terms, enter your biographic information, select your license type and select ‘SEARCH’. Review the results and select the ‘Next’ button. Check the box next to ‘Connecticut’ and complete the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from Nursys and the verification will be available to the DPH. Note that PA and MI verifications are not provided through Nursys. Please contact those state boards for information on obtaining verification.

In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES


  • Plans, organizes and directs health services for an assigned program, unit(s), facility or geographical area;
  • Ensures that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to individuals;
  • Provides clinical guidance to nursing staff;
  • Selects, develops, motivates and evaluates staff;
  • Conducts performance evaluations;
  • Monitors the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care;
  • Ensures that resources are available to provide quality services;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE


Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED


  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
  • A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS


Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
