Job Summary
- The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily operations within the sterile processing department, ensuring high standards for instrument reprocessing, regulatory compliance, and staff performance. This role provides direct supervision, technical support, and guidance to lead techs and sterile processing staff to promote efficient workflow and quality service.
Essential Functions
- Oversee daily staff assignments, workflows, and productivity
- Ensure adherence to AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA guidelines
- Train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance
- Maintain department quality assurance and compliance documentation
- Monitor sterilization records and ensure accuracy
- Coordinate continuing education and certification preparation
- Support equipment troubleshooting and maintenance coordination
- Assist with department budget monitoring and inventory control
- Act as liaison with OR leadership and ancillary departments
- Provide coverage and perform sterile processing functions as needed

- In-depth knowledge of sterile processing practices and compliance standards
- Effective team leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Skilled in process improvement and documentation systems
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
- Proficient in electronic tracking and quality assurance systems
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited sterile processing program preferred
- Associate degree in healthcare-related field preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- CRCST or CBSPD certification required
- Supervisory or management certification preferred (e.g., CHL)
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in sterile processing with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead capacity
