Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to oversee and manage the company’s tax compliance and strategy, including sales and use tax, property tax, fuel-related taxes such as IFTA, and applicable Canadian VAT (and refunds). This role will ensure compliance with multi-jurisdictional tax regulations across the U.S. and Canada, optimize tax processes, and support audits and planning initiatives.


Essential job functions

  1. Manage and oversee compliance for U.S. sales and use tax, including return preparation, filings, and payments across multiple jurisdictions
  2. Administer and coordinate property tax filings, assessments, and appeals
  3. Oversee IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) reporting, filings, and reconciliations
  4. Work proactively and provide guidance to various accounting functions for compliance and filing preparedness (W-2s, 1099s, W-9s, etc.)
  5. Reconcile tax positions as part of the financial close process
  6. Support compliance with Canadian indirect taxes (GST/HST, PST/QST), including filings and documentation
  7. Monitor changes in U.S. and Canadian tax laws and assess their impact on the business
  8. Lead and support tax audits, including responding to notices, gathering documentation
  9. Proactively research and monitory jurisdictional compliance and nexus
  10. Maintain and improve indirect tax processes, controls, and systems
  11. Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operations teams to ensure accurate tax treatment of cross-border and domestic transactions
  12. Review exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation is maintained
  13. Identify opportunities for tax savings, process efficiencies, and risk mitigation
  14. Support tax technology implementations or improvements


Position Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA or MST preferred)
  2. 5+ years of relevant tax experience, with strong emphasis on indirect taxes
  3. In-depth knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, property tax, and IFTA regulations
  4. Experience with Canadian indirect taxes (GST/HST, PST, QST) strongly preferred
  5. Experience with multi-state and cross-border (U.S./Canada) tax compliance and audits
  6. Familiarity with tax software and ERP systems (e.g., Vertex, Avalara)
  7. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  8. Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  9. Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  1. CPA or MST
  2. Experience in industries with complex tax footprints (e.g., transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail)
  3. Familiarity with Vista or Trimble products
  4. Exposure to cross-border tax planning and compliance
  5. Ability to supervise and mentor staff

The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate in the office to occasionally loud at field locations.
