Position Summary:
Total Experience Learning® (TExpL®) is seeking passionate, responsible, and student-centered college interns to serve as Instructional Interns for our immersive summer programs. Interns will support TExpL® instructors and program staff in student engagement, well-being, and instructional support, helping to deliver a hands-on, innovative learning experience for K–12 students. This role is ideal for aspiring educators, researchers, camp leaders, and professionals looking to gain firsthand experience in experiential education, program facilitation, and youth mentorship within a dynamic academic setting. Instructional Interns will receive orientation and training in TExpL® methodologies and are expected to actively participate in daily operations, student supervision, and camp activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and engage students throughout the day in both academic and recreational programming, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
• Assist instructors in delivering TExpL®-based lessons and experiences, tailored to student interests and learning goals.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor, supporting student confidence, creativity, and collaboration.
• Help students conduct hands-on research projects and experiments, including preparation and clean-up.
• Manage daily logistics such as check-in/check-out, supply set-up, and clean-up.
• Support with camp operations, including transitions between sessions, lunch/snack time, and activity rotations.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with instructors, fellow interns, and program leadership.
• Attend mandatory training and planning sessions prior to camp start and during key program weeks.
• Provide feedback on programming to help strengthen future TExpL® initiatives.
• Adhere to all safety and behavioral policies in accordance with University guidelines.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and belonging for all participants.
Qualifications:
• Current college student (preferred fields: Education, Science, Psychology, Social Work, or related).
• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must complete all clearances and background checks required to work with minors at Alvernia University.
• Prior experience working with youth in education, camps, tutoring, or mentoring roles preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to student growth and development.
• Ability to take initiative, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Passion for creative, student-driven learning and commitment to TExpL®’s mission.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be present and punctual for all scheduled camp dates.
• Ability to stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods.
• May be required to lift and move light equipment or supplies (up to 15 lbs).
• Work may include both indoor and outdoor environments.
Availability:
• Interns must be available for required training dates in early summer and for all assigned camp sessions throughout the program period.
• Schedule may vary based on camp sessions and intern availability, with flexible, hourly shifts.
