The Flagger is responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe flow of traffic in various situations throughout active construction zones. They direct traffic, set up and maintain traffic control devices like signs and barricades, and communicate with other personnel to ensure safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Directing Traffic: Using hand signals, flags, or other methods to guide vehicles and pedestrians.
Setting up and Maintaining Traffic Control Devices: Placing and managing cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic control equipment.
Monitoring Traffic Flow: Observing traffic patterns and making adjustments to control measures as needed.
Communicating with Others: Working with construction crews, law enforcement, and emergency services to coordinate traffic control efforts.
Ensuring Safety: Prioritizing the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
Following Regulations: Adhering to traffic control regulations and procedures.
Aiding: Assisting motorists and pedestrians when needed.
Adaptability: Assuming other duties as directed by supervisor. Duties to include general labor roles as needed when flagging duties are not needed.
Qualifications/Skills:
Physical Stamina: The ability to stand and walk for extended periods on rough terrain within a construction zone.
Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy and safety in traffic control practices.
Communication Skills: Clearly conveying instructions to drivers and communicating with other personnel. Maintaining a professional attitude towards those in the community, our employees, and subcontractors is essential.
Decision-Making: Making quick and accurate decisions in dynamic situations.
Adaptability: Adjusting to changing traffic conditions and unforeseen events.
Knowledge of Traffic Control Procedures: Understanding traffic control standards and regulations (MUTCD, ATSSA and State and Local guidelines pertaining to traffic control industry).
Traffic Control Certification: (Preferred) - ATSSA Traffic Control Technician training
Physical Demands: The job involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Schedule: Work week consists of Monday – Friday work with Saturday to be expected within the guidelines of the company – generally every other Saturday.
Work Location: Job sites for the team can vary. The company operates within a 50-mile radius of downtown Nashville. All employees are expected to have reliable transportation to and from their assigned job location.
Job Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license. Operating traffic control vehicles required at times.
