Job Summary

The Transporter is responsible for the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital. This role plays a vital part in patient care by ensuring individuals are transported with dignity and care, while maintaining compliance with hospital safety protocols and customer service standards.

Essential Functions

  • Transport patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds to designated locations, including surgical suites, imaging areas, and discharge points.
  • Assist patients in entering and exiting transport equipment safely, including those with IV pumps, oxygen tanks, and monitoring devices.
  • Deliver medical equipment and specimens to various departments as requested.
  • Assist staff in the transport of deceased patients to the morgue.
  • Provide directions and information to patients, visitors, and staff courteously.
  • Maintain transport equipment cleanliness and report any maintenance issues.
  • Complete transport documentation accurately and promptly.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to operate transport equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Capacity to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and maneuvering patients and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a busy healthcare environment.
  • Dependable and professional with a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Basic computer or electronic documentation proficiency.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
