This position serves as the UPP & Pitt Executive Department Administrator for the Department of Medicine. This role monitors all departmental related accounting systems, as well as, establishes, reviews, and monitor operating budgets at the departmental level. The Department Administrator has the decision-making authority/approval for expenditures on budgets. Liaison between the Department of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Physicians (UPP). Develops, implements, interprets and monitors policies and procedures to ensure compliance with University and UPMC Health System regulations. Assist in administrative and financial “outreach” efforts.
Job Summary
Reserved for dually employed UPP Administrators. Typically acts at the Director - Business Administration level responsible for all HR and Financial aspects of an area that employs both Pitt and UPMC employees. Analyzes high-level purchasing documents and reviews procurement processes. Monitors human resources transactions processed through University electronic action forms. Participates in strategic planning and implements policies and procedures. Reviews budgets, expenses, and revenues against financial goals and prepares reports. Resolves moderate to highly complex operational issues.
Essential Functions
Provide strategic decision-making, policy development & policy implementation for the Department of Medicine (DOM).
Work collaboratively with the Department Chair to develop & implement strategic plans focused on the growth & development of clinical & academic programs for the DOM.
Create & manage the operating & capital budgets.
Serve in an advanced administrative capacity, relieving the Department Chair of appropriate administrative duties and pursue these duties under the policies set forth by the Chair.
Assist and advise the Department Chair in the areas of research support, financial coordination, long-range planning and daily operations. Works with the Chair and faculty to develop the strategic direction and implement short and long-term goals for the department, which may include PSD, UPMC, and School of Medicine.
Attend meetings and frequently communicate with faculty, staff and administrators regarding daily operations as well as long-term plans.
Analyze and comprehend highly complex financial and administrative information.
Physical Effort
Individual is on the move quite a lot travelling between buildings and offices on campus. Requires some bending, stooping and stretching. Ability to sit at a desk for periods of time and to handle such things as telephone and computer. Ability to communicate via phone, email and virtual platforms. Ability to attend meetings in person or virtually.
