Job Summary
Reporting to the Utilities & Energy Management Director Associate, the Utilities Systems Engineer Associate:
- Oversees a wide-range of complex engineering requirements associated with the performance of utility systems (electric, steam, water, gas, etc.) and infrastructure for the University – Lexington Campus
- Monitors the performance of utility distribution systems within a broad area of specialty
- Identifies, investigates, and analyzes complex engineering problems and system failures
- Analyzes and tracks multiple systems to determine cause of deficiencies, outages, and failures
- Oversees work performed to restore utilities in as fast and safe a manner as possible during situations that cause outages or loss of services
- Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge on the latest discoveries and inventions, industrial advancement and development trends, legislative and regulatory limitations, etc.
- Implements updated technologies and best practices
In addition, this position:
- Develops designs, plans, and operations for utility systems such as steam, chilled water, power, water, gas, and sewers
- Oversees and/or manages utility construction projects, developing project scope, parameters, timelines, specifications, and budgets
- Oversees, reviews, and approves the work of external engineering planning and design consultants
- Ensures designs are consistent with University standards, contract specifications and all relevant regulations and engineering standards
- Develops project implementation strategies, budgets, and plans
Internal Employee Being Considered
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
MS Windows/Office; SAP; KRONOS
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in projects or programs related to the safe,
reliable, and efficiency distribution of electricity at high and medium voltages.
May specialize in infrastructure improvements to reduce service interruptions and improve the quality of service.

Bachelor’s degree – Electrical Engineering
Driver’s License — Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer In Training (EIT) preferred
