About the Business

The U.S. Consumer Services business is responsible for our suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., including our premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, our Global Dining and Resy businesses, and best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels. The USCS team is focused on making membership an indisputable competitive advantage and helping each other become better leaders every day.   

Within U.S. Consumer Services, the Consumer Banking Organization is committed to providing members with Everyday Banking products that give members unparalleled value, service and convenience. This recently formed team is driving AXP’s innovation for banking services, identifying Member needs’ and innovating around new digital banking products. This exciting opportunity is core to driving future success of American Express.

About the Role

The Vice President, Consumer Deposit Product Oversight and Governance, will lead a team responsible for driving cross-product operational consistency and efficiency, as well as critical governance and control activities related to Consumer Deposit Products (Checking, Savings and Time Deposits). Core to the mission will be ensuring our deposit product suite operates seamlessly for our members while also keeping a focus on operational excellence and compliance. As we work towards delivering world class Deposit Products and experiences, this role will be pivotal in that journey. The ideal candidate will be a highly structured and influential leader with ability to both set long term vision for product interoperability and roll-up their sleeves to build critical new oversight processes.

Key responsibilities for this leader’s team will include:

  • Lead and implement key risk and control initiatives across the Consumer Banking business, driving effective risk mitigation and strong collaboration across BUs.
  • Partner closely with Product Management & Development to ensure appropriate control design for new products and features
  • Act as lead in engagements with Compliance and Audit assessments as well as Regulatory Exams across Consumer Deposit Products
  • Partner closely with Control Management, Compliance, GCO and Risk partners on control and oversight agenda and operating cadences
  • Support the day-to-day internal and external exam management process, working with the Enterprise functions (e.g., data request compilation, action implementation, and regulatory adherence)
  • Drive consistent use of the enterprise risk governance by communicating updates and integrating regulatory changes into processes and training
  • Set and carry out strategy for issue management resolution and remediation processes in accordance with American Express standards
  • Continuously enhancing our operational strategies, processes, and controls to support the delivery of best in class products
  • Act as a key thought leader, sharing best practices, thematic insights, and control trends across the Consumer Banking business

In addition, the following qualifications will be key to success:

  • 10+ years of experience in financial services
  • Strong experience in past controls, compliance or operational excellence focused roles
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
  • Demonstrated history leading or playing key role in regulatory exams and internal audits
  • Prior leadership experience working with Consumer Deposit products
  • Strong affinity for process management and quality assurance
  • Outstanding interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills with the ability to work with partners across different functions and connect with all levels of employees
  • Prior experience leading complex, cross-functional teams
  • High comfort level in start-up / new business environment and open to leading while being hands on
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment to deliver multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Committed people leader with high level of integrity and a track record of developing and inspiring others

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
