How will you make an impact in this role?
The Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) department serves as the voice of and for American Express, with responsibility for Public Affairs & Media Relations, Colleague Communications, Corporate Sustainability, and Social Media. Within CA&C, the Corporate Communications team handles communications for American Express’ business strategy and financial performance, brand, community-focused initiatives, policy activities and regulatory compliance, along with owned external content. This role will report directly to the SVP, Corporate Communications.
The Vice President Content, Enterprise will lead the team responsible for American Express’ external corporate content strategy and will play a pivotal role in crafting and telling our company’s story. This role on the Corporate Communications team is an exciting opportunity to drive innovation in how American Express communicates its key priorities and initiatives related to customers, colleagues and communities with the public.
The person in this role will be responsible for editorial planning for American Express’ external channels to ensure our stories are told in an inspiring and engaging way. This person will lead the American Express Newsroom and corporate website; and will work closely with the Colleague Communications team to connect our internal and external storytelling.
The Vice President Content, Enterprise will be a highly experienced content and social media strategist with excellent copy-editing skills as well as a passion for the American Express brand, a deep understanding of the changing editorial and social environment, a keen eye for identifying compelling story angles that showcase the unique attributes of our company and its culture, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to think creatively and drive results.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive strategy for social and content across all American Express’ enterprise external channels, partnering with international social to ensure consistent voice and messaging.
- Overseeing the creation and curation of completing, high-quality content for all social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) as well as American Express Newsroom and Website.
- Collaborate with marketing, PR, compliance, legal and risk teams to ensure messaging aligns with brand values and regulatory standards.
- Continue to evolve the American Express Newsroom and corporate website.
- Lead editorial planning meetings for the company’s newsroom, working with a wide range of partners, including the internal Colleague Communications team.
- Establish the external voice, tone and identity of the American Express Newsroom; create editorial guidelines and processes, including content style guides.
- Experience working in a highly regulated industry.
- Take an analytical-based approach to communications and measuring impact. Continuously optimize strategies based on data-driven insights.
- Remain up to date with emerging platforms, trends, and best practices across editorial/content and social media, and regularly share your perspective.
- Manage budget and several outside agencies who provide support on the creation and monitoring of content and social media.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of digital and social media communications, preferably with a large global multi-national brand.
- Superior writing and editing skills, and attention to detail.
- Experience producing inspiring content and campaigns for a large/global organization.
- Ability to develop and write compelling material, often on short deadlines.
- Know how to package a story and understand the importance of visual elements.
- Mastery of multiple form factors, including video, podcast, short-form/ long-form and social.
- Strong time management and project management skills, and ability to lead multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines.
- Exceptional collaboration skills and an ability to build relationships with a wide range of internal partners.
- An effective leader with excellent judgment and people management skills.
- Proven track record for developing and executing programs that have driven tangible results.
- Willingness to dive into new opportunities and work with a "no task is too small" attitude.
- Always thinking "how can we do this better?"

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
