Position Summary
The Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing & Health Professions invites candidates for full-time (9-month) Visiting Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor to teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate nursing program. This position requires the flexibility to teach a variety of nursing courses, including but not limited to fundamental and medical-surgical areas of nursing across the lifespan, and in the four spheres of care. Responsibilities may include didactic and clinical teaching, as well as student advising.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities.
Credentials of finalist will determine final rank.
Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
- Prepare course outlines and teach within graduate and/or undergraduate programs based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive instruction in classroom, lab, and clinical environments.
- Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses; evaluation of student performance is through either exams, papers, or assessment of student skills.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
- Maintain all clinical clearance requirements.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

- Ability to effectively understand professional nursing education standards for BSN, MSN and/or DNP programs.
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Effective instructional delivery.
- Proficiency in (or ability to learn and effectively use…) use of instructional technology.
- Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.
- Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Master of Science in Nursing.
Required Work Experience
Three (3) years of clinical practice as a registered nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the baccalaureate level.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Primary care or other community-based nursing practice experience.
- Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation at the undergraduate. level or with concept-based curriculum and/or distance education methodologies.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Current unencumbered license as an RN in Texas, or eligibility for said licensure.
