Work on the 1-million sq. ft. factory is now under way on the 400-acre site. It will be the company’s second largest plant, rivalled only by JCB’s world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, England, and create 1,500 new jobs over five years. The factory will make Loadall telescopic handlers and aerial access equipment, with production scheduled to start in 2026. The factory will also have the capacity to expand and build other products in the future.

Position Purpose

This position is responsible for leading and controlling the welding process across the factory. Involves recruitment, training and skill development for welders in manual and automated applications in heavy fabrications using the GMAW welding application mainly. We should be able to deploy the process of managing the effectiveness of welding across the shop floor to maintain reliability and productivity. This also involves alignment with global manufacturing sites and certification bodies to establish and maintain required regulatory documentation.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Define standard welding process and parameters for the heavy fabrications
  • Understand and optimize the manual and automated welding applications
  • Must have experience in manual welding, robot and cobots in welding process
  • To recruit, train, improve and sustain the welding processes with the shopfloor welders
  • Reaching out to the colleges/schools to identify and develop the talent pool for potential shop floor employees
  • Implement safety processes and practices on the shop floor
  • Selection, deployment and monitoring of the equipment related to welding and safety of welders
  • Monitors the process parameters and control proactively to avoid weld defects
  • Monitor and improve the quality parameters for welding, lead zero defect drive
  • Conduct destructive and non-destructive testing of welds
  • Daily audits to ensure correct process adherence and critical to quality checks on shop floor
  • Qualification and requalification of the shopfloor personals for their welding skills required for job; monitoring the skill management program
  • Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports, statistics visualize and improve welding processes across the factory
  • Help supplier development in the areas related to welding processes
  • Select, approve and implement the welding accessories, consumables etc.
  • Develop, monitor and control the budget and cost related to welding
  • Create process to avoid rework, rejects and field issues for welded fabrications
  • Must be able to perform the MIG welding operation to demonstrate right quality and productivity to the shopfloor team.
  • Use of AR/VR applications for training
  • Monitor and optimize the asset Utilisation and productivity

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must pass any drug screens, background checks and any pre-employments tests as applicable.
  • Associate’s degree in field of welding technology
  • Three years of weld Engineering experience in relevant industry
  • Two years of experience in field of manual and automated welding

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and higher education/specialization in welding
  • Five years of Weld Engineering experience in a heavy Fabrication industry
  • Three years of experience in Manual and Robotic welding application as Welding Engineer
  • Any additional certification as Weld Trainer would be preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies

  • Proficient with welding technology, application and related processes
  • Ability to Train the workforce and qualify with certifications to suit
  • Understanding of the standards (ASME/AWS etc)
  • Knowledge of materials, weldability and PFMEA in field of welding
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Impressive listening skills
  • Ability to influence the shop floor employees to drive safe working conditions
  • Ability to influence and manage the entire quality aspects of welding
  • Promote innovation, creativity and technology to improve the process
  • Ability to manage suppliers to deliver new technologies
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • A good welder himself; having ability to weld manually to excellent quality standards

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, including but not limited to 12-hour shifts/7 days a week
