We invite you to explore and grow your career with us!JOB SUMMARY:The Mortgage Underwriter III plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of our loan portfolio through the thorough analysis and underwriting of residential mortgage loans. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of direct mortgage underwriting experience, with a strong background in Jumbo non-conforming loans and/or FHA/VA government underwriting. This role also requires an advanced understanding of business cash flow analysis, particularly for self-employed borrowers, and a demonstrated ability to mentor less experienced underwriters.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<ul><li>Analyze and underwrite a broad range of loan applications including Conforming, Jumbo, FHA, and VA products in compliance with investor and agency guidelines.</li><li>Conduct detailed reviews of complex income scenarios, including Business tax returns and cash flow analysis for self-employed borrowers.</li><li>Ensure loan files meet all regulatory and company requirements for credit, income, assets, and collateral.</li><li>Serve as a technical expert and resource for fellow OnPoint staff requiring senior-level judgment.</li><li>Collaborate closely with Loan Officers, Processors, and other internal departments to facilitate timely and accurate loan decisions.</li><li>Serve as a mentor to Junior and Mid-Level Underwriters, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to enhance team knowledge and consistency.</li><li>Stay up-to-date with industry changes, investor guidelines, and underwriting best practices.</li><li>Maintain a pipeline of loans in an efficient and timely manner while meeting service level agreements.</li><li>Ensure adherence to all company policies and compliance regulations including TRID, RESPA, and other federal guidelines.</li></ul><ul><li>Additional projects, responsibilities, or other duties assigned.</li></ul>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; COMPETENCIES:<ul><li>Strong ability to analyze business tax returns, and complete complex cash flow analysis.</li><li>Exceptional knowledge of agency guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), AUS systems (DU/LP), and compliance requirements.</li><li>Prior experience mentoring or leading junior underwriting staff.</li><li>Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication abilities.</li><li>Ability to manage high volumes in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing accuracy.</li><li>Maintain a strong willingness to partner with our Sales and Processing teams in building a strong member first culture.&nbsp; </li><li>Must be willing to work in office 40% of the working days</li></ul>MIN QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>Minimum 5 years of recent mortgage underwriting experience.</li><li>Proficiency in underwriting Jumbo Non-conforming loans and/or FHA/VA Government loans (DE and/or SAR/LAPP certifications preferred).<ul><li>A minimum of 6 months’ experience in either category</li></ul></li></ul>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>DE Underwriter Certification (FHA)</li><li>VA LAPP/SAR Designation</li><li>Experience with Encompass or similar LOS</li><li>Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or a related field (preferred but not required)</li></ul>Additional Information:OnPoint employees are rewarded, acknowledged and appreciated!
