Job Description Job Summary: The Balskus lab is searching for a technician to provide experimental support for an on-going project aimed at developing therapeutics for the vaginal microbiome. Working closely with senior lab members, the technician will primarily be responsible for assisting in the design, execution and analysis of assays that assess microbial growth, metabolism, and enzymatic activity. Additionally, the employee will assist with other tasks that support the operation of the overall lab, as described in more detail below. The research assistant may work on an independent project, but within specific guidelines. Strong organizational and communication skills are critical. Final candidates may be asked to demonstrate their technical ability through an in-lab demonstration. 
Job-Specific Responsibilities: <ul><li>Under supervision of a senior lab member, assist in the design and execution of assays to assess anaerobic bacterial growth or enzymatic activity. This includes aliquoting clinical samples and testing these samples for enzymatic activity. This will also include the preparation of vaginal bacterial cultures for testing in various enzymatic assays.</li><li>Assist in the maintenance of equipment and instrumentation for these analyses including lab automation instruments such as a Biomek iSeries and other liquid handling instruments.</li><li>Inoculation and maintenance of anaerobic microbial cultures from freezer stocks in preparation for assays.</li><li>Preparation and sterilization of growth media.</li><li>Purification of enzymes.</li><li>Preparation and analysis of samples through using various analytical methods, in particular small molecule liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), quantitative PCR (qPCR), RNA-Seq, and biochemical assays on clinical samples and cultures.</li><li>Working with a senior lab member, develop workflows for processing and analyzing the resulting data using python. Report results using a variety of scientific, word processing, and presentation platforms.</li><li>Maintenance and cleaning of additional laboratory equipment and glassware.</li><li>May instruct other lab members in certain techniques or procedures. The Assistant Director of MEDscienceTECH reports to the Director of HMS MEDscience and serves on the organization’s partnership management team, collaborating with the leadership team to ensure alignment and drive strategic partnership goals. MEDscienceTECH is a growing, early-stage program that is in need of someone with a deep understanding of the broader biomedical engineering education and career development landscape as well as the ability to think creatively and structure collaborations that advance shared priorities. This role also includes curriculum development requiring subject matter expertise in computer science, biomedical engineering, and life sciences. 
&nbsp;This person will also serve as a lead teacher for HMS MEDscience’s flagship clinical program. In this capacity, they will develop and implement scope and sequence for semester-long partnerships with schools, based on shared priorities. They will deliver MEDscience’s clinical curriculum and make adjustments tailored to the priorities of schools and experience-level of students, while also leading and mentoring less experienced teachers.

Job Description Job Summary: The Albertin Lab at Harvard University studies the evolution of developmental patterning mechanisms using cephalopods and other molluscs as model systems. We employ diverse approaches, including gene expression analyses, lineage tracing, live imaging, and CRISPR-mediated gene manipulation to probe molecular and cellular mechanisms driving the development of molluscan brains and body plans, with the goal of revealing fundamental principles underlying the evolution of development. We are seeking a Research Assistant II to support our growing lab needs. 
Job-Specific Responsibilities: This position will report directly to the Principal Investigator and perform the following duties:<ul><li>Leads laboratory experiments utilizing standard techniques and equipment;</li><li>Collects data related to cephalopod embryology and genomics;</li><li>Handles animal care;</li><li>Performs microscopy and data analysis;</li><li>Performs general laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and cleaning equipment and ordering supplies;</li><li>May process orders or invoices, or undertake other duties under the direction of administrative personnel;</li><li>Other related duties as necessary.</li></ul>This position requires the individual to work occasional nights and/or weekends. 
Working Conditions: Laboratory setting. 
Physical Requirements: Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (&lt;30 pounds). Qualifications Basic Qualifications: College background in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or other similar field. At least two years of lab experience with imaging, molecular biology, and/or bioinformatics. Education may count towards experience. 
Additional Qualifications and Skills: Undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.) in any of the following biological or physical sciences: Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or other similar field. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of prior experience working on interdisciplinary research and will have direct experience with confocal imaging, basic molecular biological tools, handling cephalopod or other marine embryos. Must have a strong background and proficiency in biology and enjoy working in a collaborative team with others. Must know standard laboratory practices and be familiar with general laboratory equipment. Must be highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently. This position requires the individual to work occasionally at night or on weekends.
