The position is open to a wide range of specializations, including endeavors on the fringes of the field. While teaching experience in higher education is preferred, experiences not conventional to academic settings are also considered valuable. This position is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025, and an appointment period of one year to end May 15, 2026. Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Teach courses via on ground as assigned. Teach evening, off-campus, and distance-based courses as required.</li>
<li>Post grades during the term for student feedback and submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar.</li>
<li>Complete required College trainings and complete all required reports such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions and administer and return surveys by the required deadlines. Advise the Program Chair or Dean at the earliest possibility if you are unable to teach a class. Attend meetings as requested by the Program Chair and/or Dean. Comply with all the College’s and TBR’s policies and guidelines. Other duties as assigned.</li>
<li>Regularly check your JSCC email and your departmental mailbox. Respond to emails/messages within 48 hours except on the weekend.</li>
<li>Submit class syllabus or update department syllabus at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of class or within seven days of the execution of contract.</li>

Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Art or a related field with at least eighteen (18) credit hours in graduate level Art from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications
Collegiate level teaching experience.
Candidates with availability to teach in person, during the day, and/or teach at various Jackson State locations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

They will develop new upper division courses in one or more of the following areas: art histories of the global south, 1500 to present; global studies in visual and material culture; transcultural and diasporic artists; and/or provenance and curatorial practice, as these topics relate to the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will complement current faculty specializations and actively develop an interdisciplinary art historical practice that stresses innovation in scholarship and pedagogy. Projected distribution of effort is 50% teaching, 40% creative activity/research, and 10% service. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by the time of employment and at least two years of teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate school is preferred.
