POSITION SUMMARY:&nbsp; The Principal Faculty member, as a full-time faculty instructor in the Physician Assistant (PA) Program, is primarily responsible for course instruction and/or course coordination in the didactic and/or clinical phase of the program. This individual is expected to demonstrate effectiveness in course design, delivery, and evaluation, and plays a critical role in supporting students to achieve the program’s student learning outcomes and the competencies required for PA practice. Under the guidance of the program leadership, the Principal Faculty member contributes to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards. This role includes active participation in program planning, student advising, academic support, and other activities that foster student and programmatic success. The Principal Faculty member holds a faculty appointment (rank commensurate with experience) within the Physician Assistant Program.In fulfilling the responsibilities of this role, the incumbent is expected to uphold and promote the philosophy of South University, which emphasizes quality services to students and stakeholders; development, engagement, and recognition of employees; sound economic and operational principles; and an environment that fosters innovation, positive thinking and institutional growth. This position offers a $10,000 signing bonus.&nbsp;KEY JOB ELEMENTS:<ul><li>Provides teaching and instruction in the PA program including:</li></ul><ul><li>Coordination and instruction of courses as assigned based on program needs.</li><li>Teaching in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.</li><li>Serving as a small group facilitator and student faculty advisor.</li></ul><ul><li>Assists the Director of Didactic Education&nbsp;in the administrative coordination of the didactic phase of the program.</li><li>Assists the Director of Clinical Education in the administrative coordination of the clinical phase of the program.</li><li>Contributes to curriculum development, including the design and implementation of courses within the program.</li><li>Participates in ongoing curriculum evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.</li><li>Evaluates student performance during objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), lab practicals, clinical reasoning sessions, problem-solving activities, and technical skills training and assessment during both the didactic and clinical phases. </li><li>Reviews and evaluates student performance on submitted assignments, projects, and presentations ensuring use of quality evidence-based resources and citations.</li><li>Develops course examinations and maps exam questions to ARC-PA Accreditation Standards and the NCCPA Content Blueprint to ensure alignment with program learning outcomes.</li><li>Provides input to support accreditation efforts, program self-assessment, and periodic review of the program’s mission and goals.</li><li>Participates in the program's admissions process to include attendance at open houses, student recruitment, application review, candidate interviews, and student selection.</li><li>Engages in service, campus and community outreach, Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of a full-time Principal Faculty member.</li><li>Participates annually in faculty development opportunities focused on teaching effectiveness and staying current in medical knowledge.</li><li>Assists with clinical site development, monitoring, and relationship management as needed to support the clinical phase of the program.</li><li>Provides remedial instruction to support student academic success and progression through the program.</li><li>Assists with other responsibilities as assigned by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education, the Program Director, or campus leadership.</li><li>Performs duties as assigned and outlined in the faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.</li></ul>JOB REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge:<ul><li>Terminal degree in healthcare disciplines such as physician assistant, pharmacy, medical doctor, or public health. Job Summary
Instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or Physics labs at Jackson State Community College (JSCC). JSCC offers classes at four locations with the main campus located in Jackson, TN. Additional centers include the Lexington-Henderson County Center in Lexington, TN, the Savannah-Hardin County Center in Savannah, TN, and the Gibson County Center in Trenton, TN. Adjunct faculty are hired as needed on a semester-to-semester basis and are expected to provide effective instruction in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus in all modalities of course offerings.
Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Teach courses on ground at any of the four JSCC locations. In addition, courses may be administered online, hybrid, or FLEX as assigned.</li>
<li>Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment and distance-based courses as required.</li>
<li>Utilize the college’s learning management system (LMS) to provide course materials to students.</li>
<li>Update course syllabi to include name and contact information at least 1 week prior to the first day of class or within seven days of the execution of contract.</li>
<li>Stay abreast of current developments in the teaching discipline.</li>
<li>Attend JSCC’s adjunct orientation.</li>
<li>Collaborate collegially with full-time faculty in preparation and coordination of laboratory exercises and examinations in all modalities of instruction.</li>
<li>Ability to efficiently operate, maintain, and clean standard laboratory supplies including glassware, centrifuges, pH meters, dissection instruments, and microscopes.</li>
<li>Regularly check both your JSCC and eLearn emails and respond to emails/messages within 48 hours.</li>
<li>Submit final lab grades to the instructor of record, Department Chair, or Dean at least 48 hours prior to the final grade deadline.</li>
<li>Complete all required College trainings and reports including, but not limited, to attendance reporting, Early Alerts, cybersecurity training, Title IX training, etc.</li>
<li>Advise the Department Chair, Dean, and Division Secretary as soon as possible in the event you would need to be absent from class.</li>
<li>Comply with all JSCC and TBR policies and guidelines.</li>
<li>&nbsp;Perform other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related Science field.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related Science field. · Prior teaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes. · Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. · Strong computer skills, including proficiency in LMS management as well as Microsoft Office applications.
