Job Summary
You must be a current UK student to apply for this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.
NextWave Alliance is a nonprofit organization based in Lexington, Kentucky, dedicated to strengthening communities through swimming, wellness, education, and community engagement.
NextWave Swim is a year-round, development-focused aquatics program designed to provide high-quality coaching and inclusive athletic opportunities for swimmers of different ages, backgrounds, goals, and experience levels.
Our program supports multiple swimmer pathways, including:
- Pre-competitive and developmental training
- Competitive swimming
- Fitness swimming
- Semi-private swim instruction for youth and adults
- Specialty clinics and technical skill development
Coaches may have opportunities to:
- Work with swimmers across multiple developmental pathways
- Help shape training groups, team culture, and program direction
- Develop specialty clinics and technical training opportunities
- Mentor youth swimmers and developing athletes
- Collaborate with university, community, and athletic partners
- Gain leadership and program-development experience
- Grow into expanded coaching or leadership roles as the organization develops
We believe coaching is more than running practices. It is teaching, mentoring, encouraging, and helping swimmers build confidence, discipline, skill, and a lifelong connection to the sport.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
REQUIRED Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Coach swimmers during assigned practices and training sessions;
- Teach stroke technique, starts, turns, race skills, and age-appropriate training fundamentals;
- Support swimmer development through clear instruction, encouragement, and positive mentorship;
- Help create a safe, organized, inclusive, and supportive training environment;
- Assist with practice setup, lane organization, and equipment management;
- Communicate professionally with swimmers, families, and coaching staff;
- Support clinics, workshops, swim meets, community engagement activities, or special programs as needed;
- Uphold USA Swimming, SafeSport, facility, and organizational policies;
- Serve as a positive role model for athletes.
