The successful candidate will be able to apply their knowledge of cardiovascular physiology to identify and validate cardiac/cardiovascular targets, establish pharmacodynamic endpoints in vivo and in vitro to enable drug discovery programs, elucidate structural-functional pathophysiology, and direct ex vivo, microscopic, and/or biochemical characterization/analysis of samples. This is a lab-based role with time spent critically reviewing programs/targets, analyzing data, meeting with key stakeholders and leadership to present results, and serving as a team representative.Position Responsibilities: In the role as a Principal Scientist within Discovery Cardiovascular, the ideal candidate will:<ul><li>Perform in vivo and in vitro/ex vivo studies to define pharmacodynamic/pharmacokinetic relationships and characterize and develop models of disease relevant to programs, as well as response to treatment</li><li>Lead studies to completion, which may include directing the analysis of samples internally or externally through management of CRO activities</li><li>Evaluate programs critically and present findings and recommendations to leadership</li><li>Identify opportunities for protocol improvement and develop new experimental protocols</li><li>Employ technical knowledge and theory to make experimental in-life modifications, when necessary</li><li>Document, critically review, modify experimental approach if necessary, and present experimental data in a timely manner</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams by providing timely and actionable study results</li><li>Provide hands-on training and guidance to develop team members or direct reports</li><li>May be a functional area lead for drug discovery programs independently or with support of leadership</li><li>Contribute to and author reports, abstracts, and publications</li><li>Write protocols for IACUC approval and work with IACUC committees</li></ul>Experience =Basic Qualifications: <ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree<ul><li>8+ years of academic and / or industry experience</li></ul></li></ul>Or<ul><li>Master’s Degree<ul><li>6+ years of academic and / or industry experience</li></ul></li></ul>Or<ul><li>Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences&nbsp;<ul><li>4+ years of academic and / or industry experience</li></ul></li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Ph.D. in Physiology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
