Join the State of Connecticut and take your next career step with confidence! <h4>PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)</h4> In a Department of Correction facility or district this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the general repair, maintenance and installation of locking, computerized and mechanical security systems and equipment. <h4>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</h4> <ul><li>Performs maintenance, diagnostic assessment, repair and installation of locking, mechanical and computer security equipment including locks, pneumatic locks, electronic keypads, fingerprint locks, gate motors, cell mechanisms, handcuffs, padlocks, electric and/or manual and combination gates;&nbsp;</li><li>Repairs, lubricates and opens locks;&nbsp;</li><li>Cuts new and duplicate keys;&nbsp;</li><li>Changes lock combinations;&nbsp;</li><li>Repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs and other parts;&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains and repairs gate and door hinges, openers and closers;&nbsp;</li><li>Keeps lock maintenance and key control records of all security equipment as well as location and authorized holder;&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains stock of replacement parts, locks and keys;&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains stock of back up padlocks, keyed identically to those in use;&nbsp;</li><li>Inventories stock and orders and receives parts;&nbsp;</li><li>Retains custody of blueprints for institution, all keys for security system and emergency devices to manually unlock cells and gates in event of electric failure;&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains highest security for critical materials;&nbsp;</li><li>May perform supplemental duties related to other trade disciplines based on experience, knowledge skills and agency needs;&nbsp;</li><li>May physically restrain inmates, quell disturbances and otherwise assist custodial forces in emergencies;&nbsp;</li><li>May be required to operate a motor vehicle;&nbsp;</li><li>Performs related duties as required.</li></ul> <h4>KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY</h4> <ul><li>Considerable knowledge of <ul><li>construction, repair and maintenance of locks and mechanical, computerized and electromechanical security devices;&nbsp;</li><li>tools, materials, methods and principles of locksmithing;&nbsp;</li><li>correctional security measures;&nbsp;</li></ul></li><li>Skills <ul><li>interpersonal skills;&nbsp;</li><li>oral and written communication skills;&nbsp;</li></ul></li><li>Ability to <ul><li>quickly detect mechanical problems and apply corrective action;&nbsp;</li><li>operate and interpret computerized and automated control systems;&nbsp;</li><li>maintain records and prepare reports;&nbsp;</li><li>read and interpret blueprints and/or diagrams;&nbsp;</li><li>perform under stress and remain stable in pressure situations;&nbsp;</li><li>detect and diagnose related electrical problems;&nbsp;</li><li>weld and perform other peripheral equipment repairs.</li></ul></li></ul> <h4>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE</h4> Experience as a locksmith.
