Fatty acids, antioxidants, and lipoproteins play significant roles in human health, and the quantification of these important molecules provide insights into metabolic and inflammatory processes that underpin a variety of pathologies.Job-Specific Responsibilities:We are seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to help with assessing fatty acids from large patient studies. The RA will be performing solvent-based extractions of fatty acids from human samples, performing GC-FID characterization of FA constituents, and then analyzing chromatographic data to measure relative levels of key FA’s. Following data analysis, results are compiled into reports for review with the lab manager. Tasks associated with routine GC maintenance, monitoring of consumables used, and efficient chromatography data analysis will be key to this role.The successful Research Assistant may also have opportunities to learn assessments of carotenoids/antioxidants and lipoproteins using HPLC-based methods and immunoassays, respectively. Other lab-related tasks may be assigned. This position will require a candidate with a willingness to learn chemical instrumentation and the requisite assays for measuring essential biomolecules and immunoassays such as ELISA or using chemical analyzer, all while gaining insights to the operations of a Harvard core facility and contributing meaningfully to a collaborative study. Strong communication skills and a superlative work ethic are desired for the analyst in this role.Basic laboratory bench skills should include working with a variety of solvents, pipettors, and preparation of solutions. The individual will process tree-ring samples from forest collections for analysis and will organize and quality-check tree-ring and forest ecology data using the programming language R (or the ability to transition from a similar language to R). 
Job-Specific Responsibilities: As part of a collaborative research effort, this role contributes to long-term ecological studies on climate and environmental change through hands-on laboratory work and data analysis.Key responsibilities of this role include:<ol><li>Conduct sample preparation, image analysis, measurement, and analysis of ecological samples from old-growth forests. Evaluate samples using standard cross-dating procedures to determine data quality. Perform intensive microscopic or similar sample analysis in the laboratory to collect sample data with a high degree of skill and precision.</li><li>Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with additional quality-check data analysis, including creating ring-width chronologies, in preparation for data management and archival in the Harvard Forest data archive. This work will also enable successful transfer of data at the end of the project to publicly held databases such as the DendroEcological Network. These activities will be led by the lead Research Assistant under the supervision of the PI.</li><li>Assist the PI with standard data recording and the development of tables and figures in preparation for presentations of project results.</li><li>Perform other basic laboratory work, including maintaining equipment and supplies for field expeditions and laboratory research.</li></ol>Working Conditions: <ul><li>Work is primarily performed on-site in Petersham, MA and may&nbsp;require up to 5 weeks of travel for vegetation sampling.</li><li>Field conditions include potential biting insects and ticks, and work may be done in inclement weather conditions.</li><li>While days will be spent in the field, lodging will be in local motels/hotels.</li></ul>Physical Requirements: <ul><li>Field work requires spending time hiking and working in forests and other remote wilderness regions in prevailing&nbsp;weather conditions with rocky and/or steep terrain covered with vegetation.</li><li>Must be capable of lifting, moving, and transporting related research equipment that may weigh up to 50 lbs.</li></ul> Qualifications Basic Qualifications: <ul><li>High school graduate or equivalent.</li></ul>

Must be able to travel overnight Job Summary This position will oversee assigned fuel zones regarding proper food safety &amp; adherence to UK Performance Nutrition Standards. This position will be responsible for maintaining par levels and managing the budget of the Olympic sports fuel zones. The employee will be responsible for maintaining food safety standards from federal, state &amp; local agencies. The employee will counsel athletes with regard to calorie needs, recovery from training &amp; injury as assigned by supervisor. This position will supervise student volunteers &amp; dietetic interns. This position will assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of student athletes in the context of athletic performance and health &amp; provide appropriate Medical Nutrition Therapy as needed.
