The successful applicant will be a licensed social worker (LMSW, LCSW, and LCSW-S) with an academic doctorate (preferably PhD or DSW) in social work or a related field. Job responsibilities include teaching, some scholarly activity (e.g., manuscript submissions, and conference presentations), and service to the program, college, university, community, and profession. The anticipated appointment date is Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will excel at incorporating active-learning strategies in teaching and social work practice. The successful candidate would have an interest in the cultural aspects of the border, embracing the opportunities to work with underserved groups and to collaborate on initiatives regarding border health and health disparities.This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to contribute to a program with established bachelor's (BSW), and master's (MSW) programs in social work, as well as an online MSW program beginning Summer 2025. Multiple scholarly opportunities are available in community and clinical settings on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Teaching excellence and current scholarship will determine appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor level.Job Requirements:1) PhD in Social Work, DSW, or earned doctorate in a closely related field (all-but-dissertation doctoral candidates who are close to completion by June 2026 will be considered);2) an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program;3) evidence of teaching excellence in a higher education institution;4) a minimum of five years of post-MSW experience as a practicing social worker;5) Texas licensed or license-eligible as LMSW and LCSW; History of participation in professional organizations;6) strong record of community outreach to human service organizations;7) experience working directly with people from population demographics reflective of our region;8) the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; and9) Ability to work independently and coordinate teaching with colleagues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
