Job Location: Hauppauge, NY

Job Description:

Responsible for the planning, layout, setup, operating and making tool adjustments for a variety of major conventional or automatic machines. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Checks and inspects and builds machining operations against specified tolerances. May include work with fabrication, sheet metal operations, or machine hardware and assemblies. May also make recommendations concerning use of and improvement upon materials and design. Responsible for producing high-precision components, troubleshooting complex tooling issues, and ensuring zero defects. Requiring minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Setup & Programming: Program (G-code / conversational), edit, and set up Vertical mill CNC machines.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Tooling & Fixturing: Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and design custom holding fixtures for challenging jobs.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and correct dimensional discrepancies and machine malfunctions on the fly.
  • Mentorship: Assist and train junior operators/machinists on best machining practices.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Strong background in setting up, light programming, and operating CNC Vertical mills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Haas, Mitsubishi, Milltronics controls is preferred.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to shop safety protocols.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; vocational or technical certification in machining is preferred.
