As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.How will you make an impact in this role?The Credit Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for independently overseeing and challenging the company’s credit risk taking and credit risk management activities, including the comprehensive identification, management, and mitigation of credit risks within the company’s risk appetite.The Director will lead a team of risk professionals who conduct independent credit risk assessments of commercial rating and underwriting decisions, develop monitoring rules, review credit risk processes, and take part in projects that provide credible challenge to 1st line credit risk teams.&nbsp;&nbsp; The candidate should have experience in commercial credit risk management, data &amp; analytics, risk appetite limit setting, portfolio monitoring and relevant regulatory regulations, and guidance.Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Conduct independent review of wholesale rating and underwriting decisions and provide credible challenge to first line teams.Assess adherence to credit policies and procedures and bank regulations.</li><li>Conduct quantitative analysis on risk management data to drive insights and recommendations for first-line teams.</li><li>Collaborate with Business Unit Risk teams to enhance decision processes or address major credit issues.</li><li>Identify credit risk metrics (e.g. KRIs and KPIs) to continuously monitor and oversee risk.</li><li>Develop requirements to support the next generation risk capabilities </li><li>Produce credit risk dashboards for AXP Risk Committees including tracking risk appetite metrics.</li><li>Analyze trends in the charge and lending portfolios and conduct deep dive analysis to understand key drivers.</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>7+ years of Banking or Credit risk management experience and strong experience related to Commercial credit extension and management.</li><li>Familiarity with banking regulations, particularly those imposed by OCC and Federal Reserve.&nbsp;</li><li>Knowledge of macroeconomic trends and its impact on borrower repayment.</li><li>Ability to clearly communicate oversight findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior leaders.</li><li>Demonstrates the courage to challenge the status quo.</li><li>Project management skills, ability to deliver high quality results while meeting deadlines, department and personal goals.</li><li>Ability to clearly communicate oversight findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior leaders.</li><li>Experience with data-driven analytical tools is helpful (e.g. SQL, SAS, R, Python)</li><li>Bachelor’s degree with high GPA and a degree (or substantial coursework) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business.&nbsp;</li></ul>Leadership Skills<ul><li>A colleague who can build, encourage, and mentor a team with a passion for risk management governance;</li><li>Strong collaboration and influential leadership skills with the ability to build positive relationships across teams and levels of seniority;</li><li>Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged;</li><li>Ability to communicate oversight findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior executives;</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li></ul>Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefitsThe above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
