Clinical responsibilities will include all aspects of pediatric nephrology, with a focus on building and expanding our ESRD and renal transplant program. The division currently has 2 full time and 1 part-time nephrologist and has the support of 3 clinical nurses (1 full-time, 2 part-time), a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, social work, dietician, as well as a dietician/research faculty with a background in nutritional science. The division staffs one of two licensed pediatric hemodialysis units in the state accredited for a total of number of 8 patients. The hospital has received continued UNOS accreditation in 2020 for Pediatric Kidney Transplantation as part of a combined Pediatric and Adult Transplant program. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology at KCH is an active member center of the Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium (PRNC) and is participating in NIH supported research including CureGN, CKiD, GIGA, and others. The Department of Pediatrics at KCH is committed to providing excellence in education, clinical care, and research. The selected candidate will become actively involved in all aspects of teaching including training medical students and residents. Job Summary The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is currently seeking a faculty member provide inpatient care services in the Pediatric Neonatology Intensive Unit. This position will primarily be responsible for directing patient care to admitted patients, writing daily progress notes, submitting clinical charges, and overseeing fellow residents, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and ancillary staff in providing care. This position will primarily be located in London, KY. This position will participate in night and weekend on-call coverage as assigned by the clinical division chief, and providing individual teaching to pediatric residents and other health care professionals participating in the care of patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In addition, this position will attend regional, national, and/or international scientific meetings and serve on Children’s Hospital and College of Medicine committees as needed. The Kentucky Children’s Hospital has Eastern and Central Kentucky’s only Level I pediatric trauma center, Level IV newborn (neonatal) intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit. In addition, this facility houses more than 30 advanced sub-specialty programs, such as pediatric oncology and pediatric surgery. The NICU is a 66-bed unit providing Level IV and intermediate care for the newborn. It provides a neonatal transport team that utilizes the Kentucky Children’s Hospital ambulance, a mobile neonatal unit, and serves as a regional neonatal transport center serving Eastern and Central Kentucky. Our NICU is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology to give every at-risk newborn the best possible care. Patient care strategies within the NICU include infant therapy and high frequency ventilation for preemies with breathing disorders.
