Position Summary&nbsp;


This position is primarily responsible for teaching in the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the primary responsibility of this full-time&nbsp;12-month&nbsp;faculty position is to provide quality instruction and supervision of student learning while maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom. Teaching responsibilities include classroom and clinical instruction. The faculty responds to students in a timely manner and communicates with the discipline and division via college-provided tools and resources.&nbsp;The faculty also serves as a program liaison, assisting with accreditation and regulatory assignments.&nbsp;

Adjunct instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in the class. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats and at several different locations, as well as online. Instructors also communicate with students between classes and are responsible for several administrative duties such as reporting on academic activity and submitting final grades.
Adjunct instructors will participate in courses on a semester by semester basis to supervise associate degree nursing students in skills lab, simulation lab, and or clinical lab settings. Master Degree level prepared adjunct faculty may also provide lecture and classroom instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi and departmental guidelines.
2. Beginning and ending all classes as scheduled and covering all relevant learning outcomes for each course.
3. Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning, communicating with students weekly, and answering student emails in a timely manner.&nbsp;
4. Evaluating students using a variety of methods and informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
5. Using Cleveland State email for administrative purposes and responding to student questions via Cleveland State email in a timely manner.&nbsp;
6. Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, acknowledging contracts, academic activity and assessment reports, and final grades.&nbsp;

Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for the Practical Nursing Adjunct Instructor position to work at the TCAT Knoxville Main Campus. This position will typically work 18 to 30 hours per week. POSITION SUMMARY: To provide quality instruction for student learning and to maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis will be placed on teaching and evaluating students in the classroom and laboratories. PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM: The Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Graduates will obtain a diploma in Practical Nursing and may then be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) used to obtain nursing licensure in Tennessee. Practical Nursing is entry-level nursing. Graduates are prepared with the background and skills to give knowledgeable, basic nursing care to patients with varying degrees of physical needs. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors. Positions are available in hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician's offices, home health agencies, and various other healthcare settings.

Minimum Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with an active license in Tennessee as a Registered Nurse (RN); minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing required. • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an RN within the last five years. 
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and teaching experience are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication and computer skills. • Evidence of ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
SALARY: This position's rate of pay is $35.00 per hour.

GENERAL DUTIES:
The adjunct practical nursing instructor, under the direction of the Coordinator of Nursing along with the PN faculty, shall be responsible for assisting in planning, developing, initiating and teaching the approved instructional program for practical nursing students in both the classroom and clinical setting. In addition, the adjunct practical nursing instructor shall maintain appropriate program and student records for documentation and evaluation; provide individual evaluation of each student’s progress with counseling and appropriate recommendations when required; supervise students’ clinical experiences as scheduled; and maintain good public relations with clinical partners. The adjunct instructor will also assist with student placement and student follow-up; participate in recruitment of students; cooperate with outside agencies; work with program advisory committees; conduct visits to business and industry; and establish and maintain good public relations within the college’s service area. Some travel is required.

<li>Post grades during the term for student feedback and submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar.&nbsp;</li>
