Title:&nbsp;Area Coordinator Division: Student Affairs Department: Housing &amp; Residence Life Operations FLSA Status:&nbsp;Exempt Salary Range:&nbsp;Annual Salary EEO Job Group:&nbsp;2 C9 Position Summary The Area Coordinator has overall responsibility in the apartments (housing 350-600 students) or residence hall complexes (housing 350-450 students) for creating a safe, secure, and learner centered environment. Requiring frequent and meaningful interactions with students in a variety of settings while maintaining good records. Area Coordinators serve as educators overseeing the development of students and student staff in the areas of academic growth, personal growth, skill building, productive citizenship and inclusivity. Duties/Responsibilities&nbsp; Framed by the values of USI, Student Affairs and Housing and Residence Life (HRL), the major responsibilities of an Area Coordinator at USI include: Collaboration <ul><li>Direct supervision of resident assistants (7-15) including weekly meetings with professional staff and student staff both individually and collectively. Maintain appropriate files and tracking to assess learning and development. </li><li>Lead, participate, assess and share results of staff committees overseeing recruitment/selection, training, development, recognition, wellness, diversity and assessment. </li><li>Assist students experiencing emotional, academic, physical, and interpersonal difficulties, and refer them to other professionals when appropriate. Assist in crises. </li><li>Serve as 24-hour on-call contact for housing emergencies; usually one out of every six weeks. Communicate with the leadership team and document interactions as appropriate. Maintain office hours. </li><li>Participate in Housing and Residence Life events, student affairs and university workshops, opening, closing, and other processes and duties as assigned. </li><li>Work proactively with other offices across campus.</li></ul> Diversity <ul><li>Advocate and empower individuals using a social justice lens, through role modeling, advising/supervising, and assisting students in their exploration of personal identity as a citizen in a global society. </li><li>Support and promote social justice education programing and initiatives, sponsored departmentally and university wide. Show initiative to develop individual skills needed to become a more inclusive person. </li><li>Establish continuous personal contact with students to address student needs and concerns by remaining visible, approachable, and active in the areas.</li></ul> Innovation <ul><li>Maintain general operation of an area (2 residence halls or 9-13 small apartment buildings), including budget management, assessment, occupancy management, and communication with related offices and personnel including housekeeping, housing, and supervisor. </li><li>Encourage the leadership development of students; facilitate a residential education action plan with student staff to support the specific needs of students living in your area. </li><li>Share in the implementation of campus-wide programming by Housing and Residence Life, primarily Eagle’s Night Out, a weekend programming series.</li></ul> Integrity <ul><li>Understand, support, and enforce campus code of conduct in a developmentally appropriate context; facilitate educational conduct meetings; and assign appropriate sanctions. Support resident assistants in the enforcement of policy and conduct. </li><li>Timely in person and written follow-up on Care Team concerns in support of student wellbeing and retention.</li><li>Respond to concerns and issues of students, parents/guardians, staff, faculty and others in a manner that provides exceptional service, accurate information, and fosters relationship-building.</li></ul> Learning <ul><li>Develop intentional student interactions and programming focused on the curricular experience, including implementing a residential curriculum that seeks to create a meaningful residential experience; assessing curriculum, ongoing development of lesson plans; and mentoring students living on campus. </li><li>Provide support to Theme Living Communities (TLC), themed communities and academic initiatives as outlined by the department. </li><li>Serve on various committees. </li><li>Participate in webinars and departmental and university wide professional development. </li><li>Provide basic crisis management interventions with students while educating and referring students to the campus resources available to enhance their collegiate experience; be an educator to student staff to be able to manage low-level referral situations.</li></ul> Required Knowledge and Skills <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree required. </li><li>Two years of related experience required. </li><li>Strong interpersonal, organizational, writing, and time management skills required. </li><li>Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as effectively as a team member. </li><li>Experience with computers, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email software. </li><li>Strong customer service skills, written, and oral presentation skills. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality required. </li><li>Must possess a high level of integrity. </li><li>Must be able to be flexible and adaptable. </li><li>Must be able to work with a diverse student population. </li><li>Must have a working vehicle and a valid driver’s license. </li><li>Must be able to live on campus.</li></ul> Preferred Knowledge and Skills <ul><li>Master’s degree strongly preferred.</li></ul> Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements <ul><li>Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., though some evening and weekend hours are required.</li><li>Routine on-call periods requiring staying on campus including holidays and university closings.</li><li>Area Coordinators are required to live on campus in order to be active with and available to the USI community.</li><li>Area Coordinators are allowed to leave Evansville up to two weekends a month in coordination with department policies and practices.</li><li>Emergency response periodically required to area hospitals during on-call rotation.</li><li>Occasional travel may be required to regional, state or national conferences.</li></ul> About USI&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; The University of Southern Indiana is a public higher education institution located on a beautiful&nbsp;1,400-acre campus in Evansville, IN. Duties/Responsibilities&nbsp; The successful candidate will engage in dynamic teaching, quality research, and service. The standard teaching load for a tenure-track faculty member in the Romain College is three courses per semester, with possible opportunities for additional teaching in the summer, if desired. The teaching load may include a variety of courses, ranging from lower-division courses such as Introduction to Business and Survey of Management to upper-level major-specific courses in leadership, human resources, or other areas fitting the successful candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Required Knowledge and Skills Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Management from an AACSB accredited school. If employment starts in August 2026, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2027. About the College The Romain College of Business is dual accredited by the AACSB for business and accounting and plays an important role in the economic and social development of the region. The College currently enrolls approximately 1,100 undergraduate business majors across eight different programs and more than 1,000 MBA students across multiple concentrations. The College also operates several state-of-the-art labs providing faculty access to high quality resources for teaching and research.
