Description: Summary

The Welder Class B is responsible for welding castings and fabrications according to specifications. This role also operates welding, cutting, pantograph, sheave-making, and other production equipment while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Select the appropriate welding rod for each job.
  • Weld various castings and fabrications according to specifications.
  • Pass required tensile and code tests.
  • Operate pantograph, cutting, sheave-making, and other production machines as needed.
  • Read and understand blueprints, welding symbols, and written instructions.
  • Use precision tools, measuring instruments, and shop mathematics.
  • Complete required production paperwork.
  • Communicate with supervisors, inspectors, and other team members.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a welder.
  • Advanced welding experience in accordance with company progression requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow welding procedures.
  • Ability to fit up parts before welding and follow required measurements.
  • Ability to use shop mathematics.
  • Ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, and written specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate welding and production equipment.
  • Ability to learn and remember machine controls, measuring tools, and assembly instructions.
Additional Information
  • Must regularly lift between 1 and 50 pounds.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, smoke, and fumes.
  • Regular attendance is necessary to maintain production schedules.
  • Responsibilities may vary based on production needs.

Schedule and Pay

First shift: 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Overtime may extend the shift until 3:30 PM. Saturday overtime may be available from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM and is usually voluntary. Mandatory overtime is rare and will be posted at least three days in advance.

Pay is $27.04 per hour during the first 90 days and increases to $28.23 per hour after the probationary period.
