Job Description

The Perioperative Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring a seamless surgical experience for patients and their families. You will be responsible for providing exceptional care and support during the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-anesthesia care phases. This role involves collaborating closely with the healthcare team, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies, and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients. Your expertise and dedication will contribute to the overall success of surgical procedures and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional patient care and family support throughout the three phases of the surgical experience.
  • Support physicians and the healthcare team with equipment, supplies, and assistance in the Pre-Op and PACU areas.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and actively participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting teamwork and cooperation.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic work area, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Monitor and assess patient vital signs and respond to any changes or emergencies promptly.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and patient safety.
  • Educate patients and their families about pre- and post-operative care, providing clear and concise information.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's in nursing preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey is required.
  • BLS certification is mandatory upon hire or transfer, with ACLS and PALS certifications required for specific specialties.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Prior experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred, with training provided for incumbents.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy environment with frequent interruptions and a high level of multitasking.
  • Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, and quick walking.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new protocols and procedures.
