Graduate Assistant Hourly (GAH) Position for Health Professions Advising
The Graduate Assistant Hourly (GAH) position for the Health Professions Advising Program (HPA) is responsible for managing outreach efforts for the office including development of social media content, newsletters, and communications to undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as directed by the HPA Director and HPA Assistant Director.This position will also support the office through event planning, providing front desk and office coverage, managing the HPA general inbox, and assessing and directing student (current, prospective, and alumni), faculty, and staff inquiries to the office.
This position offers the opportunity for the graduate student to gain practical experience in an office that offers specialized advising to students on a pre-health pathway. Some health interests that we assist with include pre-med, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, public health, and more.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages the front desk for the office, answering phone calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries.
- Develops engaging content and manages social media outreach efforts for the office.
- Organizes the monthly Health Professions Advising newsletter under the direction of the Director.
- Assists in event planning, with a particular focus on the pre-health honor society induction, Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), which is held annually in the spring.
- Participates in meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one supervision meetings.
- Conducts research and assessment to enhance and improve the services of the Health Professions Advising Program.
- Collaborates on special projects and presentations to classes, clubs, and organizations as needed.
- Eligibility: Must be admitted to a graduate degree program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as a full-time student.
- Preferred qualifications include having an interest in social media communications, student affairs, academic advising, public health, and a commitment to the University’s mission. The individual should be a superior communicator and collaborator, and dedicated to seeing tasks completed from start to finish. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and creative thinking are necessary for this role. Proficiency in Power Point, Word, and Canva are strongly preferred.

- Work Schedule: Regular office hours are 9am – 5pm. This is an in-person position in the Health Professions Advising Suite located in #114 in the St. Augustine Center (SAC). - Pay: This is an hourly position. The rate of pay is $18 per hour.
