Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse Surgery (OR RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered perioperative care in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role is responsible for patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, education, and coordination throughout the surgical process. The OR RN collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe and effective patient care while adhering to evidence-based practices and hospital protocols.

Responsibilities:

Evaluate patients prior to surgery

Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and the perioperative process

Prepare patients for surgery, including IV therapy, medication administration, and surgical site verification

Participate in surgical briefings, time-outs, debriefings, and universal protocol compliance

Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies

Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care using evidence-based practices

Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary teams

Assess and monitor patient condition throughout the perioperative experience

Document patient care and changes in condition accurately and thoroughly

Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and post-operative care

Requirements:

Minimum 1+ year of recent OR RN Scrub and/or Circulating experience REQUIRED

Acute care experience REQUIRED

Active Kansas RN License REQUIRED

Registered Nurse Diploma required

BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 30 days of hire

Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and communication skills

Schedule:

Full-Time

Days: 5 x 8-Hour Shifts (6:45 AM Start)

Nights: 3 x 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM Start)

On-Call Required (details discussed during recruiter interview)

Setting:

340+ bed acute care hospital

Level II Trauma Center

Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center

Operating Room performing Trauma, General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedic, Urology, GYN, Neuro, and other specialty cases

Approximately 500 surgical cases annually

Collaborative perioperative team environment

Position reports to OR Manager/Director

Part of HCA Midwest Health system
