Kaiser Professor of Health Care Policy, the Research Assistant will help coordinate the daily operations of research projects in the field of health policy, including topics related to the health and economic effects of policies governing mental health and substance use disorder treatment and prescription drugs. Current projects are focused on the role of telemedicine in mental health and addiction care; factors influencing the low rates of use of medications that treat alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder; and the impacts of changes in provider payment policies on access to mental health and addiction treatment services, quality of care, and spending. &nbsp;The primary task for the Research Assistant will be to use statistical software to work with large data sets, including insurance claims datasets. This work will involve creating and managing data files that can be analyzed and conducting statistical analyses under the supervision of Dr. Huskamp. The Research Assistant is expected to have strong critical thinking and excellent writing skills to assist with drafting and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals. The Research Assistant will participate in team meetings and is expected to have strong verbal and written communication skills in conveying and discussing the methods and analyses with faculty collaborators and other team members. Research in the department's laboratories is primarily focused on diseases of developing countries.Insects are a key gateway for spreading disease because of their ability to ferry pathogens from one host to another. These vectors represent important biological touch points, especially in malaria, and we are pursuing innovative research programs to illuminate their roles and identify strategies for future disease control. In Africa — where the majority of malaria deaths occur — the primary vector of disease is the mosquito, Anopheles gambiae. The malaria parasite is transmitted through the bites of female mosquitoes, whose high reproductive capacity fuels malaria transmission. Therefore, targeting these insects (and the parasites they carry) holds great promise as a strategy for future disease control.The successful candidate will support the research of the Department and of the Catterccia Laboratory, focusing on parasite-vector interactions. &nbsp;Job-Specific Responsibilities: The Senior Human Resources Consultant provides strategic guidance and advice on all HR related issues, demonstrating a solid understanding of the opportunities and resources available.&nbsp;Essential Functions&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Consults with and advises managers and employees on policies and procedures relating to employment practices, policy interpretation and application, recruiting, performance management, compensation, union and employee relations, staff development, and organizational development.&nbsp;</li><li>Partners with managers, employees, HR colleagues, and bargaining unit representatives to address a variety of workplace issues and to facilitate collaborative problem solving and decision making.&nbsp;</li><li>Oversees the collaborative development and implementation of employee recognition programs in consultation with HR colleagues, managers, and leadership.&nbsp;</li><li>Coaches managers&nbsp;and employees to encourage effective communication and objective problem resolution to achieve productive outcomes.&nbsp;</li><li>Works with managers and employees on compensation issues, including position reviews/reclassifications, internal equity, salary increases, and salary offers.&nbsp;</li><li>Partners closely with HR colleagues and managers to align HR services and program offerings with organizational goals and leadership and staff development needs.&nbsp;</li><li>Responsible for the communication, implementation and delivery of HR services and programs.&nbsp;</li><li>Contributes to the effective coordination of HR activities to provide consistent and accurate delivery of services.&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrates a high level of responsive and effective customer service and team orientation.</li><li>Maintains current knowledge of University policies and processes, progressive HR practices, and key trends.</li><li>Provide technical guidance, consulting, and problem resolution for human resources-related issues.</li><li>Consult with managers and employees on employee relations issues.&nbsp;</li><li>Coach managers or arrange coaching in performance management, employee relations, retention, and career development.&nbsp;</li><li>Advise, interpret, communicate, and participate in the development of HR policies, practices, and processes&nbsp;</li><li>Collaborate with managers to identify issues and enhance organizational design, development, or training needs.&nbsp;</li><li>Manage salary administration for new hires, reclassifications, reorganizations, and special projects&nbsp;</li><li>Manage compensation activities, including conducting equity reviews of all staff; ensure that any contractual increases are implemented accurately and on time.</li><li>Manage and implement the annual merit increase and bonus process&nbsp;</li><li>Provide training to clients/staff&nbsp;</li><li>May function as a subject matter expert or project lead&nbsp;</li><li>May provide recruitment services for hiring managers and departments in collaboration with recruiters&nbsp;</li><li>May collaborate with a centralized HR function to provide service&nbsp;</li><li>Ensure compliance with University Human Resources policies, procedures, and requirements and applicable legal regulations</li></ul>Working Conditions: <ul><li>Work is performed in an office setting</li></ul> Qualifications Basic Qualifications: <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required</li><li>Minimum of 7 years’ relevant HR experience</li></ul>Additional Qualifications and Skills: <ul><li>Professional experience in a multi-disciplinary Human Resources environment (such as employee/union relations, performance management, training and development, organizational design and effectiveness, compensation, and recruitment) preferred.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws and experience managing employee relations issues preferred.&nbsp;</li><li>Master’s degree preferred.&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated commitment to building and sustaining productive relationships and the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.&nbsp;</li><li>Strong track record of providing timely and responsive consultation, aligning HR services and programs with organizational initiatives and goals.&nbsp;</li><li>Exceptional communication skills (writing, oral, and listening) and customer service skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Practices evidence-based decision making supported by data and analytics to provide strategic and effective HR services and programs.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Builds trust and credibility at all levels internally and externally.&nbsp;</li><li>Holds sensitive information in confidence, makes sound recommendations, and exercises professional judgment and discretion.&nbsp;</li><li>Works independently with initiative and also effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.&nbsp;</li><li>Strong organizational skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment.</li></ul> Additional Information <ul><li>Standard Hours: 35 hours per week</li><li>Hybrid schedule:&nbsp;A combination of on-campus and remote work&nbsp;</li><li>Visa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position</li><li>Pre-Employment Screening: Identity, Education, Criminal</li><li>Orientation and Review: This position has a 90-day O/R review period</li></ul>#LI-MG1Work Format DetailsThis position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location.
