Lecturer - College of Nursing - Simulation

This is a full-time, academic year position reporting to the Dean of Health Sciences and assumes EMS programmatic instructional activities for the needs and demands of the DSCC EMS programs. &nbsp;This position has a focus for the Dyersburg State Community College main campus; however, official workstation may change from campus and center dependent upon needs and demands of the EMS programs. Duties include working with the Director of EMS and EMS Clinical Coordinator for coordination of student classroom and clinical field experiences. This position is pending grant approval.
Duties and Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>To devote an equivalent of 37.5 hours of work per week</li>
<li>Responsible for 30 credit hours of Teaching Load Equivalency (TLE) per academic year.</li>
<li>Create a positive environment for learning.</li>
<li>Develop, evaluate and revise relevant curriculum in cooperation with colleagues; assist in the selection materials for teaching classroom, lab and clinical activities.</li>
<li>Assist in preparation of schedules and in selection of electronic course materials.</li>
<li>Attend division, faculty, committee, and other institutional meetings to meet the needs of students and program management as well the welfare and support of the college.</li>
<li>Provide delivery of didactic material, demonstration of psychomotor skills and verification of assessment skill proficiency in the EMS Program.</li>
<li>Collaborate with EMS teaching teams and assist with setting up practice labs.</li>
<li>Assist with the recruitment, registration, advisement, retention and job placement of EMS students.</li>
<li>Maintain lab equipment and supplies necessary for demonstration.</li>
<li>Submit requests to Director of EMS for needed lecture and lab equipment and supplies.</li>
<li>Maintain inventory of equipment, videos, software and supplies; provide an inventory to the Director of EMS at the beginning of each academic year and as needed thereafter.</li>
<li>Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional, returning adults.</li>
<li>Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCC’s program viable and competitive.&nbsp; Propose changes to schedules to reflect student and community needs.</li>
<li>Flexible to teach evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses as needed (requires the use of personal vehicle).</li>
<li>Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research-based learning strategies including service learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum.</li>
<li>Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs (such as Zoom rooms), online or in a hybrid mode. EMS courses are not online; however, certain terminology and topics can be covered in online lecture videos that students can view prior to coming to class/lab.</li>
<li>Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes (e.g.eLearn).</li>
<li>Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans, and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.</li>
<li>Participate in professional development which includes a required review of effective teaching practices and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or national organization related to teaching at DSCC.</li>
<li>Participate in DSCC commencement activities.</li>
<li>Assist with the identification, interviewing, selecting and mentoring of adjunct instructors.</li>
<li>Willingness to acquire software certifications as needed.</li>
<li>Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means. Normally, responses are expected in no more than 48-72 hours.</li>
<li>Be trained and certified as a Master Advisor.</li>

As an essential component of the West Coast University infection-control program immunizations and tuberculosis clearance documentation is required in accordance with current CDC and OSHA recommendations and guidelines for Health-Care Personnel. Below are health certification details which are subject to change as required by OSHA and CDC.</li><li>Immunizations - based on the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Recommended Immunizations for Health-Care Personnel (HCP), all HCPs must submit documentation of immunization to Hepatitis B (HB) (series of three doses with anti-HBs serologic testing 1-2 months after dose #3), proof of immunity to Hepatitis B, or a signed declination; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (chickenpox); and Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (booster every 10 years). Highly recommended immunizations for the HCP include COVID-19, Influenza (yearly), Hepatitis A, and Pneumonia. For some individuals, a titer test will be indicated vs. vaccinations. Titer tests showing immunity to listed pathogens are acceptable. Titer tests showing a negative response require appropriate immunizations and follow-up titers must be completed and submitted. If one or more of the listed immunizations are contraindicated, documentation must be submitted clearly identifying the reason(s). Clinical laboratory reports with facility stamp and medical doctor's signature are required.</li><li>Tuberculosis Clearance - the CDC Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Health-Care Settings are intended to protect the HCP and patients. </li><ul><li>Two Options (consult with supervisor for specific program requirements) </li><ul><li>(1) The TB screening program consists of two major components: (1) baseline single test for M. tuberculosis infection and (2) serial testing/screening for M. tuberculosis infection. The HCP must have a baseline single test followed by serial skin testing once per year. If the HCP has a baseline positive result or has previously had a positive result, a chest radiograph must be completed to exclude a diagnosis of TB disease. Thereafter, every year the HCP must receive a symptom screen.</li><li>(2) The TB blood test (also called interferon-gamma release assays or IGRAs) measures how the immune system reacts to the bacteria that cause TB. An IGRA measures how strong a person's immune system reacts to TB bacteria by testing the person's blood in a laboratory. IGRAs are the preferred method of TB infection testing for people who have received bacille Calmette-Gu�rin (BCG) as this is a vaccine for TB disease. There is no problem with repeated IGRAs. Two IGRAs are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are available in the United States: (1) QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube test (QFT-GIT) and (2) T-SPOT.TB test (T-Spot). Positive IGRA: This means that the HCP has been infected with TB bacteria. Additional tests are needed to determine if the HCP has latent TB infection or TB disease. A health care worker will then provide treatment as needed. Negative IGRA: This means that the HCP's blood did not react to the test and that latent TB infection or TB disease is not likely.</li></ul></ul></ul>Required Experience and Skills<ul><li>Four or more years of full time documented (a minimum of 60 units; e.g. 20 3-unit course or their equivalent) teaching experience in a university or college setting required as defined by University's faculty handbook required which could include one or more years of teaching for West Coast University. Instructional experience must be at institutions which are regionally accredited.
