Assistant/Associate Professor of PhysiologyUIW MissionPosition SummaryThe Department of Applied Biomedical Sciences invites candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor of Physiology within the University of the Incarnate Word's School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). This full-time, non-tenure, faculty position will teach in the area of Human Physiology and is responsible for facilitating small interactive group sessions engaging in case-based and large group discussions.In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities, as assigned. Advises clients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation2. Assesses nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling3. Consults with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of client4. Counsels individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life5. Develops curriculum and prepares manuals, visual aids, course outlines, and other materials used in teaching6. Develops policies for food service or nutritional programs to assist in health promotion and disease control7. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates strategies for promoting and supporting breastfeeding8. Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation. (Performed by some incumbents)9. Maintains responsibility for personal/professional continuing education to enable application of current professional practice (Performed by all incumbents) <dt><h4>Minimum Qualifications</h4></dt>Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition &amp; Dietetics AND Two years of experience providing nutrition care to groups and individuals. Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience with GA WIC program. Knowledge of the current government dietary guidelines. 3 or more years experience in conducting nutrition education sessions and nutrition counseling.
